How the tools work together

A source-based worksheet or presentation from your teaching material

  1. 1.Required

You upload a textbook chapter or your own notes as a source and produce a study guide and question list based only on that source. Because answers come with citations to the source, you can check where each piece of information came from.

Feature used: Producing a study guide, briefing or table and exporting it to Google DocsAvailable on the free plan

Handoff: Export the study guide to Google Docs (built into NotebookLM), then copy the text from there and paste it into Canva. There's no direct connection between NotebookLM and Canva; the transfer is done by hand.

  2. 2.Required

You place the text into a worksheet or presentation template for the class; you can also get a draft by telling Canva AI what you want. Canva for Education is free when you sign in with EBA (Turkey's national education platform).

Feature used: Typing what you want to generate a draft post, poster, worksheet or documentLimited on the free plan

If you only need a summary or a question list, NotebookLM alone is enough; Canva comes in only when you need a page to hand out to students or a presentation to show in class. If a ready-made presentation is enough, NotebookLM's own presentation output can also be used.

Roles and conditions compiled from the two tools' official help pages (October 13, 2026). The transfer between them is manual copying.

Details: why these tools, the same Turkish-language task trial, sources

Start free

  • Canva: Canva for Education is completely free for K-12 teachers, and in Turkey you can sign in with an EBA account; you prepare worksheets, presentations and images with AI tools in one place. First step: Sign in with your EBA account at canva.com/tr_tr/egitim and complete teacher verification; if you have a personal Canva account, link it to the education account with the same email.
  • Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM): From a textbook chapter or your own notes that you upload, it produces summaries, audio overviews and questions based only on that source; because it shows citations, it's easy to check. First step: Open a notebook for a unit and add only the textbook/curriculum PDF published by MEB and your own notes; don't add student work.
  • Gemini: Free with a Google account; with Canvas it produces activity sheets and small interactive exercise drafts, and with Deep Research it surveys a topic. First step: Turn off the Gemini Apps Activity setting or choose a short retention period; state the grade level, duration and subject clearly in your prompt.
  • ChatGPT: With unlimited text chat on the free plan, it quickly drafts lesson plans, differentiated questions and answer keys. First step: In Settings > Data controls, turn off "Improve the model for everyone"; check any learning outcome codes it produces against the MEB curriculum.

First payment: one low-cost plan

  • Gemini: The cheapest paid plan in Turkey, paid in local currency; it raises the Gemini and NotebookLM limits together on your personal Google account. First step: Note for a week which limit you hit on the free plan; if you don't hit any, don't pay.
  • Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM): With 100 sources per notebook, you can collect all the unit PDFs for a term in a single notebook. First step: Open one notebook per term rather than per unit, and include the grade and unit in source names.

As you grow: Gemini in Docs and Gmail

  • Gemini: In one subscription, lets you edit and share lesson plans with Gemini directly in Google Docs and gives higher limits in NotebookLM. First step: Before subscribing, ask whether your school has a Google Workspace for Education account; if it does, the institutional account's terms are preferable to a personal subscription.

The same task in Turkish

Prepare a 40-minute lesson plan for 7th-grade math. Topic: percentage calculations and discount problems in everyday life. The plan should have these sections: learning outcome (one sentence), introduction (5 minutes), main activity (25 minutes, a grocery-store discount activity done in small groups), assessment (10 minutes). For the assessment, write 3 problems with an answer key: one easy, one medium, one hard. Suggest one extra activity for students who find the topic difficult and one for those who finish quickly. Don't use student names. If you write an MEB learning outcome code, say whether you're unsure of it.

What a good answer should include: A successful output: (1) the four sections and their durations add up to 40 minutes; (2) the answer key for the 3 problems is mathematically correct (to be checked, e.g. 25% off a 240-lira product → 180 lira); (3) the difficulty really increases; (4) there are two separate extra activities for differentiation; (5) it's in Turkish, suited to 7th grade and uses examples in Turkish lira; (6) it doesn't present an invented MEB learning outcome code as certain; (7) it contains no student names or personal data.

  • ChatGPT · met the criterion (ChatGPT Plus (paid plan), thinking: Medium · October 8, 2026)
Four sections with durations 5 + 25 + 10 = 40 min; the problems really get harder (single discount → discount and amount paid → two-step discount); there are two separate extra activities, and its answer for fast finishers is correct (A 420 lira, B 408 lira). It didn't give an MEB learning outcome code, noting 'not stated because it hasn't been verified'; no student names. The answer key sits inside an interactive component behind a 'Show' button and isn't readable as plain text.
  • Gemini · met the criterion (Google AI Pro (paid plan), model: Flash (default) · October 9, 2026)
Sections and durations 5 + 25 + 10 = 40 min (main activity 15 + 5 + 5); the answer key is correct (10% off 150 lira → 15 lira off, 135 lira; 20% off 450 lira → 360 lira, 40 lira change; 25% then 10% off 1,200 lira → 810 lira) and the difficulty really increases. There are two separate extra activities. It didn't invent an MEB learning outcome code, noting 'not stated because the current curriculum may change'; no student names.
