What Is Awesome Claude Code? The Claude Code Resource List: Sections, License and Security

If you're looking for a ready-made skill, agent, status line, tool, plugin or guide for Claude Code, you check Awesome Claude Code (hesreallyhim/awesome-claude-code): a curated list that gathers them all in a single README. It isn't software to run or install: the repository's own security policy says "we do not export executable software". As of October 14, 2026, the README has 241 unique entries and 23 main sections. The list doesn't audit the security or licenses of the projects in it; being on the list isn't proof of security. The list isn't affiliated with Anthropic. The list's own license is CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 (no commercial use and no distribution of modified versions).

What Is Awesome Claude Code For? What's in It?

An "awesome" list is a compilation that sorts good resources on a topic into categories and gives them as links. Here the topic is Claude Code: when you're looking for a tool, skill or guide, you can check this list first and start from the relevant section. Each entry has a one-line description, its author and GitHub badges (created, last commit, license, stars).

Among the sections, these stand out (README count, with number of entries): Getting started 10, From Anthropic 11, Documentation 19, Security 20, Agent orchestration 19, Skills 8, Memory and context persistence 13, Usage and cost 16, Status lines 9, Design 11, and others. There's no separate "slash commands", "hooks" or "CLAUDE.md examples" section.

Who it helps: people new to Claude Code and those looking for ready-made tools. The list itself doesn't install anything; each listed project's installation is in that project's README.

How Do You Use Awesome Claude Code?

There's no installation: open the list in your browser (github.com/hesreallyhim/awesome-claude-code), go to the relevant section and follow an entry's link. Then evaluate that project from its own README. An old resource may have been removed from the list; the README says old resources are retired over time and kept, without updates, in an archive folder.

Browse it with your assistant"Read the "Security" section of the awesome-claude-code list and pick three tools that could help me scan a project repository. For each one, check its license and last commit date in its own repository."
  1. Suggesting your own project: It's done only through the suggestion form (issue form) in the web interface; you don't open a pull request (PR).
  2. Requirement: At least 14 days must have passed since the project's first commit with active development, or it must have at least 100 stars.
  3. What to expect: CONTRIBUTING states there's no formal submission or review process, suggestions are reviewed as time allows and no response is guaranteed. A bot only checks that the form is filled in correctly; it doesn't review the resource's quality.

Before installing a tool from the list, read that tool's code and permissions yourself; hooks, MCP servers and skills can run commands on your computer.

Is Awesome Claude Code Safe? What Does It Check, and What Doesn't It?

The list itself

It doesn't access your account or data and doesn't run software. SECURITY.md says no private information is collected, and only what's public on GitHub and what users submit when making a suggestion is kept. The suggestion form is published as a public GitHub issue.

Listed projects

The list doesn't audit entries for security. SECURITY.md says auditing security issues in third-party resources is beyond its capacity and obligations, and says to report vulnerabilities to the relevant project first. Being on the list isn't proof of security.

Curation criteria

14 days of active development or 100 stars is enough for an entry; no content security scanning is documented.

Installing a skill, hook or MCP server from the list can mean running code on your computer. The list author's approval isn't a security certification. There's no published security advisory; this doesn't mean "safe". The security and license of the 241 listed entries should be checked separately for each entry.

Is Awesome Claude Code Free? What's Its License?

Yes, it's a free, public repository. However, the list's license isn't a permissive software license: Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). That means you can't use the list for commercial purposes or in modified form; the LICENSE text says the maintainer is happy to be contacted by anyone who wants to use it in modified form. GitHub doesn't recognize this license and shows "Other/NOASSERTION". The licenses and prices of the listed projects are separate.
