What Is Borsa MCP? Connecting Turkish Stock (BIST) and Fund (TEFAS) Data to Your Assistant: Setup and Limits
You ask your assistant for data on a stock, a fund or an exchange rate; Borsa MCP fetches data on Borsa İstanbul (BIST, Turkey's stock exchange) and US stocks, TEFAS funds (Turkey's fund trading platform), crypto, currencies and TCMB (Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey) data. All 23 tools are marked "read-only" in the code; there's no tool for placing orders or account transactions. It's an open-source community project by a single developer (saidsurucu); you use it either through a no-install remote URL (in Claude Desktop this requires a paid Claude subscription) or through a local uvx install. It's MIT-licensed and free. The README's own warning: it isn't investment advice, AI can hallucinate, and you should verify the data. Data delay and the licenses of the data sources aren't covered in the documentation.

What Is Borsa MCP Used For?
MCP is the standard for connecting AI programs to external tools. With Borsa MCP you can tell your assistant "get THYAO's financial statements" or "compare these funds"; the assistant calls the tools on the server, pulls the data and interprets it. According to the README, the coverage is: BIST and US stocks (price history, company profile, financial statements, technical indicators), KAP (Turkey's official public disclosure platform for listed companies) and Mynet news, TEFAS funds, crypto (BtcTurk, Coinbase), currencies and commodities, TCMB inflation and EVDS (the central bank's data delivery system) series.
All 23 tools are read-only; no order placement.
The limit on what it can do is clear too: in the code, all 23 tools are marked for reading with readOnlyHint (according to the source code); there's no tool for placing buy or sell orders, opening accounts or transferring money. The tool count is inconsistent across sources (23 in the code, 26 in the README and 28 elsewhere); this page goes by the code.
Who it's for: people who want to quickly query and compile Turkish market data with an assistant. This isn't an investment advice tool, and this page isn't investment advice either.
How Do You Install Borsa MCP?
There are two ways: the no-install remote URL (https://borsa.surucu.dev/mcp) or a local install that runs on your computer. The steps and commands are taken verbatim from the README. The README has no setup steps for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or ChatGPT.
- Open Claude Desktop. The README says this route requires a paid Claude subscription.
- Open Settings then Connectors then Add Custom Connector.
- Enter Borsa MCP as the name and
https://borsa.surucu.dev/mcpas the URL, then add it.
Prerequisites (README): Python 3.11+, Git, uv. On Windows you also need the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Open the claude_desktop_config.json file with Settings then Developer then Edit Config and add the following under mcpServers, then quit and reopen Claude Desktop:
› {"mcpServers": {"Borsa MCP": {"command": "uvx", "args": ["--from", "git+https://github.com/saidsurucu/borsa-mcp", "borsa-mcp"]}}}This method pulls the code from GitHub's main branch; it doesn't pin which version you run. Review the repo before installing.
In an Agent session, open MCP Servers › Manage MCP Servers › View raw config from the "…" menu in the editor's side panel and add the following to the mcp_config.json file:
› {"mcpServers": {"borsa-mcp": {"serverUrl": "https://borsa.surucu.dev/mcp", "headers": {"Content-Type": "application/json"}}}}Under Tools › +Local, enter borsamcp as the Tool Key and Borsa MCP as the name; enter the line below in the command field, save and enable it from the tool.
› uvx --from git+https://github.com/saidsurucu/borsa-mcp borsa-mcpTo pull TCMB EVDS series, you need a free EVDS API key: sign up at evds3.tcmb.gov.tr, copy the API Key from your profile and put it in the EVDS_API_KEY environment variable, or add it to the env block in your MCP configuration. Browsing and searching the EVDS catalog works without a key.
The old address borsamcp.fastmcp.app no longer returns data; it only returns a migration notice. The new address is borsa.surucu.dev.
How Do You Use Borsa MCP?
Once it's installed, mention Borsa MCP in the chat and write what you want in a normal sentence. The data comes from a tool call; the assistant's interpretation, however, is model output and may be wrong.
!This page isn't investment advice. README: "Not investment advice," "For educational purposes, you are responsible," and AI can hallucinate, so verify the data. Before making a decision, verify the figures on the institution's own screen.
Which Programs Does Borsa MCP Work In?
| Claude Desktop (remote)Yes | The README says this route requires a paid subscription. |
|---|---|
| Claude Desktop (local)Yes | With uvx; requires Python 3.11+, Git and uv. |
| Google Antigravity, 5ireYes | The README has separate steps. |
| Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, ChatGPTUnclear | Not mentioned in the README. The server is standard MCP; "not in the docs" doesn't mean "doesn't work." |
What Does Borsa MCP Access, and Where Does the Data Come From?
It reads only public market data. All 23 tools are marked read-only; there's no tool for placing orders, opening accounts or transferring money.
README: KAP, Yahoo Finance, BtcTurk, Coinbase, TCMB, TEFAS, Mynet Finans, doviz.com and the borsapy library. Some aren't official APIs but intermediary layers or scraping (the README says "web scraping" for TCMB).
If you use the remote URL, your queries pass through the borsa.surucu.dev server; the README doesn't state the server's privacy or logging policy. If you put personal portfolio information in a query, that text becomes content the assistant and (if remote) the server can see.
The Python process runs on your computer and connects out to the sources. Because it pulls the code from GitHub's main branch, reviewing it before running is up to you.
Data delay: the README says "real-time" in some sections but doesn't state the stock data delay or the data license; for crypto and currencies it mentions a 1-5 minute cache. This server is a single developer's project; it isn't a product of an official institution or a brokerage.
!A GitHub Security Advisories scan found no published advisories, and there's no PyPI entry under this name in OSV. There's an SSRF report (issue #20, the news ID parameter) closed on September 21, 2026; the fix has been merged. That doesn't mean "safe"; the repo has no SECURITY.md either.
Is Borsa MCP Free?
The software is free and MIT-licensed; the README mentions no fees or plans. Two notes: the README says adding a remote connector to Claude Desktop requires a paid Claude subscription (that subscription is priced separately). The EVDS key is free.
- MIT: you're free to use, modify and distribute the code
- The data sources' own terms of use (Yahoo Finance, KAP, TEFAS, BtcTurk, Coinbase, doviz.com, Mynet) aren't stated in the README; the code being MIT doesn't mean the data is free to use
Source: README and LICENSE. For commercial use or redistributing the data, check the data sources' terms yourself. This isn't legal advice.
Common Problems and Fixes
| What's happening | What to do |
|---|---|
| Reported by users The news tool appears to succeed for THYAO and GARAN but returns an empty list | Open issue #22 (October 3, 2026); no official fix. Check the news on the company's own source. |
| Reported by users Companies with hyphenated names (Tüpraş, Coca-Cola İçecek) return no results when searched by name | Open issue #23; the issue gives searching by ticker (such as TUPRS) as a working example. |
| The old address borsamcp.fastmcp.app doesn't return data | README: the new address is https://borsa.surucu.dev/mcp. |
| Package error with a local install on Windows | README: install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. |
How Do You Remove Borsa MCP?
- Remote connection: Remove the custom connector you added in Claude Desktop.
- Local install: Delete the
Borsa MCPentry from claude_desktop_config.json or from the 5ire Tools list.
The README gives no removal steps or command for clearing the uvx cache.
Frequently asked questions
What is Borsa MCP?
An open-source community project by a single developer: an MCP server that gives AI assistants read-only access to Turkish (BIST) and US stocks, TEFAS funds, crypto, currencies and TCMB (Turkish central bank) data.
Does Borsa MCP give investment advice?
No. The README clearly states that it isn't investment advice, that it's for educational purposes, and that AI can hallucinate. This page isn't investment advice either.
Can you buy and sell with Borsa MCP?
No. All 23 tools on the server are marked read-only in the code; there's no tool for placing orders or managing accounts.
Do I need an account or an API key?
Not for general use. You need a free EVDS key only to pull series data from TCMB EVDS. Adding a remote connector to Claude Desktop, however, requires a paid Claude subscription.
Is the data real-time, and where does it come from?
The README says real-time in some sections but doesn't state the stock data delay or the data license. The sources are KAP, Yahoo Finance, TEFAS, BtcTurk, Coinbase, TCMB, Mynet and doviz.com; some aren't official APIs. Before making a decision, verify the figure on the institution's own screen.
What's the difference between the remote server and a local install?
The remote URL needs no installation, but it means your queries pass through that server; the README doesn't state a privacy policy. A local install runs on your computer but requires Python, uv and Git.
