What Is Logo Design Skill? Logo Design with Claude: Setup, Examples and Outputs

You describe your brand to the agent; with Logo Design Skill the agent writes a brief, studies the industry's usual marks in a library of more than 1,400 real logos, draws 3 concepts as SVG, runs them through 16-pixel, single-color and inverted-color tests, then shows them to you with its recommendation and stops (unless you explicitly say "don't ask"). If you pick a direction, it prepares color, layouts, a presentation board, a favicon and app icon set, and a brand guide. It runs in Claude or any other agent that supports skills. Free and MIT-licensed (github.com/kaankiziltug/logo-design-skill); the scripts need Python 3.8+. A new project: the repository was created on September 26, 2026.

What is Logo Design Skill for?

When you ask a chat assistant to "make a logo," you usually get a single, random image. This skill forces the agent to follow a designer's process: first a brief that asks about the brand, then research into what is a cliché in the industry, then several ideas, drawing and testing. A skill is a package of instructions and scripts that tells an agent how to do a job; this one produces editable SVG (vector drawings that don't degrade when enlarged) files.

Who it's for: small businesses looking for a logo draft for a new business or product, and agencies and designers who want to show a client first concepts quickly. The README says the skill activates for requests about logos, wordmarks, monograms, app icons, favicons, redesigns and critiques.

How does it work? From brief to kit

BriefAsks questions or states its assumptions openly.
ResearchLooks at the industry's usual marks in the library.
Concept and test8-12 one-sentence ideas; draws 3 as SVG, audits and tests them.
CheckpointShows the concepts with its recommendation and stops; waits for your approval for the kit.
If you pick a direction and say "prepare the kit," you get color, layouts, a presentation board, an icon set and a guide; if you ask for changes, it goes back to the concept step. If your request explicitly says "don't ask, deliver everything," the agent prepares the kit without stopping (SKILL.md).

Before it is presented, every concept goes through the svg_audit.py and preview_sheet.py scripts. The test sheet puts the options side by side at 96 and 32 pixels, in a single color and in inverted color, then shrinks them down to 16 pixels; there are also squint, mirror, usage-context and competitor-shelf tests. The audit checks color count, point complexity, angles left "almost straight," tiny details and centering, and gives a production-readiness score out of 100 (sample output in the README).

LibraryWhat the README says
SizeMore than 1,400 SVG files (TRADEMARKS.md: 1,432 logos), about 1,200 brands
ClassificationMark type, technique, geometry, subject, typography, mood and industry
UseStudying structure, seeing industry conventions, avoiding similarity; not for copying

How do you install Logo Design Skill?

From the plugin marketplace (the README's recommended route)› /plugin marketplace add kaankiziltug/logo-design-skill /plugin install logo-design@logo-design-skill
Or manually, into your personal skills folder› git clone https://github.com/kaankiziltug/logo-design-skill.git cp -r logo-design-skill/skills/logo-design ~/.claude/skills/logo-design

Auto-update is off by default for third-party marketplaces (Claude Code documentation); you can turn it on from the /plugin › Marketplaces tab to stay on the latest version.

The README recommends a model that can see images, because the skill converts drafts to PNG and checks them itself before showing you. For PNG and ICO export, your computer needs one of cairosvg, rsvg-convert, Inkscape, a Chromium-based browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave) or macOS Quick Look.

What do you type, and what do you get?

No command is needed; just write your request. The requests below are adapted from the README's examples; SKILL.md tells the agent to reply in the user's language.

New logo"Design a logo for Harbor, a savings app for first-time savers. It should feel calm and trustworthy."What you get: a short brief or clearly stated assumptions, then a single overview image showing the 3 concepts in grayscale at real 64/32/16-pixel sizes, a one-line explanation for each concept and a recommendation. The agent stops here and asks whether you want the kit; if you add "don't ask, deliver everything" to the request, it prepares the kit without stopping.
Get a critique of an existing logo"This is our current logo (logo.svg). Critique it and suggest a refresh."What you get: an assessment in the critique mode described in SKILL.md; if you want, it moves on to the redesign steps.
Icon set"Create a favicon, an app icon and single-color versions from this symbol, and prepare a one-page usage guide."What you get: black, white, single-color, square, favicon and app icon versions via export_variants.py, PNGs and a web icon set; plus the guide page.

For brand names with Turkish characters (ç, ğ, ş, İ), the documentation doesn't describe the result; check the letters in the concepts.

The scripts also run manually (README): for example, python3 scripts/svg_audit.py my-logo.svg audits an SVG, and python3 scripts/search_library.py --industry payments-fintech --summary gives an industry summary from the library.

What does it access, and what runs on your computer?

Reads

The brief you give, your existing logo file and the local logo library inside the skill.

Writes

SVG concepts, PNG previews, an HTML test sheet, a presentation board, a favicon and app icon set, and a brand guide to the working folder.

Code that runs

Dependency-free Python scripts (audit, test sheet, presentation board, PNG and icon export) run on your computer. No account or key required.

Project status

Repository created on September 26, 2026; latest release 1.4.5 (October 20, 2026); 23 of 25 commits from a single developer.

Is it free? License and the logos in the library

The skill is free. The skill text, scripts, templates and catalog data are MIT-licensed. The only cost comes from the agent you use (a Claude, Codex or Gemini subscription, or the API).

Allowed
  • Using, modifying and distributing the skill text and scripts (MIT)
  • Using the library's logos to study structure and industry conventions
Not allowed
  • Using the library's logo files in your own product, marketing or design unless the brand owner's usage rules and the law allow it (they are not covered by MIT)

According to TRADEMARKS.md, each of the 1,432 logos in the library is a trademark or registered trademark of its owner; the skill tells the agent to study these marks and not to copy or imitate them in new work.

Source: README "License & trademarks" and TRADEMARKS.md. This is not legal advice.

How do you uninstall it?

  1. Claude Code (marketplace): Type /plugin, select logo-design in the Installed tab and choose Uninstall.
  2. If you copied it manually: Delete the ~/.claude/skills/logo-design (or ~/.gemini/…, ~/.codex/…) folder.
  3. Claude.ai: Turn off or delete the skill in the Skills settings.
