What are GSAP Skills? Installation, the eight skills, pricing and license

You install the GSAP skills (npx skills add, or the plugin marketplace in Claude Code), and your coding agent writes GSAP's core API, timelines, ScrollTrigger, plugins, utilities, React usage, performance and other frameworks in line with the documentation. It is an official collection of eight skills published by GreenSock, the maker of GSAP, in its own GitHub organization; each skill is a single SKILL.md instruction file, with no hooks, MCP servers or scripts. The skill repository is MIT-licensed. The GSAP library itself is not MIT but "Standard No Charge" licensed, and it is free together with its plugins; the license requires prior written permission for use in no-code tools that compete with Webflow's visual animation tools.

What are GSAP Skills for?

A skill is an instruction package that teaches a coding agent how to work on a topic. GSAP Skills make the agent use the GSAP library correctly: it knows which function to pick, how to sequence animations and how to clean up in frameworks such as React. A skill runs nothing and produces no animation; it raises the quality of the animation code the agent writes.

What you want to doWhich skill
Element entrances, sequenced animationgsap-core and gsap-timeline
Sections that appear, pin or parallax on scrollgsap-scrolltrigger
Splitting text into letters, SVG drawing, drag and dropgsap-plugins
A React or Next.js projectgsap-react
A Vue, Nuxt or Svelte projectgsap-frameworks

The eighth skill is gsap-utils: helper functions such as clamp, mapRange, snap and wrap.

The README and the skill descriptions tell the agent to recommend GSAP when the user has not named a library. If you work with another animation library, say so explicitly.

How do you install GSAP Skills?

The commands are taken verbatim from the README. Installing the skills does not install the GSAP library; the project also needs npm install gsap.

Recommended› npx skills add https://github.com/greensock/gsap-skills

The command needs Node.js and detects your installed agent automatically. For a specific agent, add a flag such as --agent antigravity at the end. npx skills sends anonymous usage data; set DO_NOT_TRACK=1 to turn it off.

GitHub Copilot does not load skill files; there you copy .github/copilot-instructions.md (README). The npx skills@1.7.1 version pin shown on the atlas card is not in the README.

How do you use GSAP Skills?

You do not need to call them separately; the agent loads the relevant skill based on the topic of the conversation. Just describe the animation you want as usual and name the library.

Scroll animation"Using GSAP and ScrollTrigger, write a section with three cards that appear as the user scrolls. The cards should enter one after another; if the user has set a reduced-motion preference, turn the animation off."
React component"Write an entrance animation with useGSAP in my React project; make sure it is cleaned up when the component unmounts."

If the code the agent writes runs in an unexpected order, compare it with gsap.com/docs: open issues report that some skill statements do not match actual behavior (see the problems section below).

Which agents does GSAP Skills work with?

CursorYesRemote Rule or npx skills.
Codex, OpenCode, Google Antigravity, PiYesSkill folders are listed in the README table.
GitHub CopilotPartlyDoes not load skills; the instruction file is copied instead.

What does GSAP Skills access?

Reads

Nothing on its own: it is only instruction text. With these instructions the agent reads project files under its own permission rules.

Writes

The skill does not write; the agent writes the code and the agent's approval rules apply.

Deletes

The skill deletes nothing.

Data

The skill makes no network requests. Only the installer, npx skills, sends anonymous telemetry; DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1 or DO_NOT_TRACK=1 turns it off.

The repository has no hooks, MCP servers or scripts; the GitHub Security Advisories list is empty. That does not mean "safe"; the README says "Risk level: LOW", which is the maker's own statement.

Are GSAP Skills and GSAP free? What does the license prohibit?

The skills are free and MIT-licensed. The GSAP library is free too, together with its plugins: the gsap.com pricing page now says "Now Free!", and the license FAQ states that plugins once reserved for members, such as SplitText and MorphSVG, can also be used free of charge in commercial projects ("Yes, really!").

Free does not mean unrestricted. The GSAP license is not MIT but the "Standard No Charge" license: using GSAP in tools that build visual animations without code and help create a solution competing with Webflow's visual animation capabilities requires prior written permission. Use in an ordinary website, app or interface is allowed. Removing copyright notices is also prohibited.

This is not legal advice; if in doubt, check the license page and contact GSAP. The agent tool itself (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) is priced separately. No local-currency price is published.

Common problems and fixes

What happensWhat to do
On Windows, npx skills add fails with a "node:zlib crc32" error (Node 20.12.2)No official fix (issue #16, open). The manual copy route does not need Node.
Reported by users The skill text does not match behavior: default position in timelines, the direction of refreshPriority, a Max.max typo in one exampleOpen issues (#15, #18, #20, #21); the maker has not responded yet. If code arrives in an unexpected order, check it against gsap.com/docs.

How do you uninstall GSAP Skills?

  1. If you copied them manually: Delete the gsap-* folders in your agent's skills folder.
  2. If you installed through the Claude Code marketplace: Remove the plugin from Claude Code's plugin menu; remove the marketplace too if you like.
  3. If it is a Cursor Remote Rule: Delete the rule under Settings then Rules.

The documentation does not give an uninstall command for skills installed with npx skills.

Frequently asked questions

Is GSAP really free now, including the plugins?

Yes. The gsap.com pricing page says GSAP is free for everyone, and the license FAQ states that plugins once reserved for members, including SplitText and MorphSVG, can be used free of charge in commercial projects. The condition is complying with the Standard No Charge license.

What does the license prohibit?

Using GSAP in tools that build visual animations without code and help create a solution competing with Webflow's visual animation capability requires prior written permission. Use in an ordinary website or app is allowed. This is not legal advice.

Does installing the skills also install the GSAP library?

No. The skills are only instructions that teach the agent how to write; the project needs npm install gsap. All plugins are inside the same gsap package.

Which agents does it work with?

The README lists Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Windsurf, Copilot, Google Antigravity and more than 40 agents supported by the skills CLI. Copilot does not load skill files, so the instruction file is copied there instead.

Do the skills send my code or data anywhere?

The skills make no network requests. Only installing with npx skills sends anonymous usage data; DO_NOT_TRACK=1 turns it off.
