What Is Clay? Lead List Enrichment, Pricing, Connecting to Claude and KVKK
In Clay (clay.com) you open a table and bring in a list of companies or people (from search, a CSV or your CRM); the list is enriched with email, phone and company details from multiple data providers, and you can have AI do web research if you like. It's a platform for sales and growth teams. There's a small free plan (500 actions and 100 data credits a month) and a 14-day trial; paid plans are priced in dollars, with Launch starting at $185/month on monthly billing. The site is in English. You add it to Claude with the "Clay" connector. Because it processes personal data, KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law) matters: the official pages don't mention KVKK or Turkey at all.

What Is Clay Used For?
This page is about clay.com, the sales and lead generation platform, not the modeling material.
Clay works like a spreadsheet: you bring in a list of companies or people by searching, or from a CSV or your CRM; then for each row you have missing details such as email, phone and company size filled in from multiple data providers in turn. An AI agent called Claygent also researches on the web and adds columns like "open positions" or "latest news" to the table.
Who it's for: sales, marketing and growth teams, and agencies. It isn't a hobby tool; it's a credit-based business tool that connects the table to your CRM, email sequences and ad audiences.
How Do You Get Started with Clay and Connect It to Claude?
- At clay.com click "Start free trial" or "Start building for free"; sign-up goes to app.clay.com/signup. The privacy notice mentions sign-in with Google, Okta and Azure.
- Age limit of 18: The privacy notice says the service isn't offered to people under 18.
- To learn Clay University (university.clay.com) offers a "Clay 101" course, documentation and templates.
- Add the "Clay" connector from Claude's Connectors page (labeled "Anthropic verified" in Claude's directory; address
https://api.clay.com/v3/mcp). Sign-in is required. - If you're on Claude Enterprise, an admin has to enable the connector first.
- Ask in plain language in the chat: "find and research the VP of Sales at stripe.com".
- A Clay admin can set a credit limit per agent from the MCP section in Clay and monitor usage.
- According to Clay's guide, type @Clay at the start of your prompt in the browser, or /Clay in the desktop app.
- The first time, sign in or create an account through app.clay.com/oauth (Clay's guide says new accounts get 500 free credits).
!The official documentation doesn't state which Clay plan the Claude connector is available on, how its tools split between read and write, or whether it can be used on the free Claude plan. The connector uses credits; for your first test, set a credit limit from the Clay admin settings.
How Do You Use Clay? Your First List
- Open an account with Free or the 14-day trial.
- Open a table: bring in a list from search (companies or people), a CSV or your CRM. Building a list doesn't use credits; enrichment does.
- Try it with 10–20 rows first: add an email or phone enrichment. The estimated credits per row are shown on the row.
- If needed, add web research with a Claygent column; send the result to your CRM or email tool.
!Don't leave Auto-run on: credits can drop unexpectedly fast. Test a new workflow on a small sample first; when credits run out, runs stop, and you aren't charged beyond your balance.
Is Clay Free? Plans, Actions and Data Credits
Partly. There's a free plan, and a 14-day trial button also appears on every plan card. Paid plan pricing has two parts: an action tier and a data credit tier.

- Data credits: are for data bought from providers and for AI. On a monthly plan they accumulate up to at most 2 times your monthly allowance. If you connect your own AI API key, no data credits are used.
- When credits run out, runs stop; you move up a tier or buy one-time credits at a 30% premium.
Prices are in dollars; a Turkish lira price and VAT (KDV) for Turkey aren't stated on the official pages. The $167 and $446 shown large on the cards are the monthly equivalent with yearly billing; with monthly billing the starting prices are $185 and $495. There's no general student discount; there's an application-based "Campus Ambassadors" program for undergraduate students.

Where Does Clay's Data Come From? KVKK, Deletion, Canceling
!Clay enriches personal data. Before sending bulk email or messages to people in Turkey, you need to check the rules of KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law) and İYS (Turkey's commercial message consent registry); Clay's official pages don't mention KVKK, İYS or Turkey. This is not legal advice.
An older FAQ says Clay gets its data from more than 100 outside providers. The current privacy center describes Clay both as a "data processor" (saying it isn't in a position to delete provider data) and with "Is Clay a data broker? Yes." The pricing page shows SOC 2, GDPR and CCPA badges.
A custom data processing agreement (DPA) appears only in the Enterprise column of the pricing table. The terms of use (May 23, 2024) say that in the event of a breach, regulators will be notified only at your written request. You're responsible for the lawfulness of the data you upload; reselling data you get from Clay is prohibited.
If the account is deleted, the data is deleted; you request it by support email. For a person whose data is in Clay's provider database, there's the app.clay.com/privacy/request form and a "do not sell" form. No in-account deletion steps are described.
To downgrade your plan: profile picture › Settings then Plan & billing › Plan options › Switch plan. The terms of use treat all fees as non-refundable; the August 2026 release notes include a prorated refund for unused credits when you upgrade. Subscriptions renew automatically.
