What is Instagram Edits? Is it free, how to use it, Turkish captions and Edits vs CapCut

In Edits you trim and combine video on your phone, add music, text and automatic captions, and prepare Reels and short videos. It shoots in 4K and downloads without a watermark. It is a video editing app made by Instagram; it is free in the app stores, with in-app purchases, but the official pages don't spell out the items. You can only sign in with an Instagram account. The menus are available in Turkish (Turkish is on the App Store language list); whether Turkish speech is turned into captions is not stated in official sources.

What is Instagram Edits for?

Edits is a phone-based video editor for people who make Reels and short videos. You shoot, edit, caption and share in one app; it offers far more layers and tools than video made with Instagram's own camera.

Inside the video, music, text, effects, stickers and captions sit on separate layers; you drag to change the length and position of each one. There is also AI to animate a photo or change the style of a clip (Restyle); Restyle is limited to 10 seconds per clip.

Who it helps: Creators who shoot Reels on their phone, small business owners, and people running a shop or cafe account. If you want desktop software or plan to cut a long, multi-layer film, Edits is not built for that.

Edits is a mobile app only. Official sources list no desktop, browser or iPad version of Edits; programs downloaded as "Edits PC" are not from Instagram.

How do you download Edits? Is there a PC version?

  1. Download "Edits: Video Editor" (developer Instagram, Inc.) from the App Store. It requires iOS 16.3 or later; the size is about 352 MB. The App Store page says "Only for iPhone", so there is no separate iPad version.
  2. Open it and sign in with your Instagram account: if you are signed in to the Instagram app, a "Continue with Instagram" button appears at the bottom.
  3. Read the terms and policies and tap the "Join the App" button at the bottom.

If you have more than one Instagram account, choose one with "Switch accounts". You can only sign in to Edits with an Instagram account; there is no separate Edits sign-up or password. If you don't have an Instagram account, you can create one in Instagram.

The only official sources for Edits are the two app stores (App Store, Google Play) and edits.instagram.com. APK sites and "download Edits" links for computers are not official.

Instagram Help Center articles are in English and use English button names; on a phone set to Turkish, the buttons appear in Turkish.

How do you use Edits? Your first video and templates

  1. Shoot or start from your gallery. Tap Camera at the bottom and start recording (stop and restart to add clips to the same project), or open a gallery video with "New project". On the shooting screen you can change the resolution (HD, 2K and 4K), frame rate and color.
  2. Edit on the timeline. Inside a project, the tools are at the bottom: Audio, Text, Voice, Captions, Filters, Adjust, Effects, Overlay, Sound FX, Cutout, Sticker. Everything you add lines up below as a separate clip; press and hold to move it, and drag its ends to set its length.
  3. Tap a layer to manage it. Layer tools such as Split, Speed, Volume, Replace and Duplicate appear.
  4. Save or share. At the top right, use Next › Download to save to your camera roll, and if you like, "Share to Instagram" to post it as a Reel. For resolution, frame rate and color, tap the resolution at the top right of the project.
Building a video from a template
  • Go to the Inspiration tab at the bottom and pick a template you like.
  • Drop in your own clips, text and audio; the template sets the timing and transitions. Then change it however you want.
  • You can also share your own video as a template: when someone else uses it, your account gets credit.

Official sources don't say whether templates are paid. If a template shows a price or lock icon, it is paid.

What to know when saving
  • Edits keeps drafts and projects in one place. If you change a project after exporting it, the earlier file does not change; you need to export again.
  • Deleting a project does not delete the file in your camera roll. A deleted project stays in the trash for 7 days.
  • To save a draft to Instagram, go to Next › Instagram › "Save draft" in the project. Your caption, tags and audience choices stay linked to the project; if you make changes in Edits, you need to send it to Instagram again.
  • If you add a tappable link to a Reel with the Links tool, you need to export directly from Edits to Instagram for it to be interactive.
Questions to ask yourself before shooting"What happens in the first 3 seconds of this Reel, does it make sense with the sound off, and what do I want the viewer to do at the end?"Edits' own advice: add captions for people watching with the sound off.

Adding captions after the whole video is finished makes the job easier: edit first, then "Captions". Edits' tutorial video recommends the same.

Is Edits free? Does it add a watermark?

The store descriptions call Edits a "free video editor". On the App Store it is listed as free with in-app purchases, and Google Play also shows in-app purchases.

WhatWhat the official pages say
App priceFree (App Store and Google Play)
WatermarkNone: "export without a watermark"
Automatic captionsEdits' own site: free and unlimited
Editing, camera, teleprompter, audio toolsThe store description lists them as tools of the "free video editor"
In-app purchasesYes; the items and their prices are not made clear on the official pages
  • Watermark: The store description and the Help Center say exports are "without a watermark"; the video you download can be shared on other platforms without a logo.
  • What do in-app purchases cover? The App Store and Google Play pages say there are purchases, but the item list and prices are not made clear on those pages. Official sources don't say which features are paid.
  • How to tell: If a feature is paid, the app shows it with a purchase screen. If no payment screen appears, that feature is free on your account.
What is the "Made with Edits" label?

If you share a video from Edits to Instagram as a Reel, an icon on the Reel shows it was made with Edits. This is not a watermark; it is an Instagram label. Official sources don't say whether the label appears if you download the video and upload it to Instagram another way.

There is no official pricing page, so no purchase prices are given. Sources: the App Store and Google Play pages, October 14, 2026.

Is Edits available in Turkish? Does it make Turkish captions?

App languageYesTurkish is on the App Store page's language list (31 languages); if your phone is set to Turkish, the menus open in Turkish. Google Play gives no language information.
Automatic captionsYesYes: Captions › choose the spoken language › Generate Captions. Edits' own site calls this tool "free and unlimited".
Recognition of Turkish speechUnclearYou can choose a language, but official sources don't say Turkish is on the list. Check the language list on the Captions screen; if Turkish appears, select it.
Translating captions into another languageYesIn the caption layer, "Bilingual" lets you change the caption language; which languages are supported is not clear.
Music libraryUnclearOfficial sources don't say whether Turkish songs are in the library. Reported by users Some users write in store reviews that searches return foreign music.
  1. Once the video edit is finished, tap Captions in the project.
  2. Choose the spoken language in the video and a caption style.
  3. Set options such as punctuation, capitalizing each word and showing profanity; tap Generate Captions.
  4. Tap the captions to open the bulk editor, then fix typos and merge or split lines. Shortening long sentences looks cleaner on screen.

Automatic captions can get words wrong; always read them before publishing. Expect errors with Turkish names, brand names and regional accents.

How does Edits use my data? Deleting and exporting

Your Instagram data

Because you sign in to Edits with your Instagram account, it uses your Instagram data: content you interact with, your login information, account ID, name and username, profile information, followers and following, your age, your location information and your community guidelines violation status. Meta's Privacy Policy applies.

Store disclosure

On the App Store page, the developer states that it collects this data: approximate location, email, name, phone number, contacts, photos/videos, audio data, search history, identifiers and usage. All of it is "linked to you" and used for various purposes, including third-party advertising. Apple does not verify this disclosure. Google Play says personal info and device IDs may be shared with third parties; data is encrypted in transit and you can request deletion.

Restyle and Meta AI

Restyle runs on Meta AI. Meta says it uses your interactions with AI to improve Meta's AI; your location and profile information may be used to personalize responses. Keep this in mind before giving Restyle a confidential video or customer footage.

How to delete a video

You can delete a video you created in Edits at any time; the project goes to the trash and can be restored within 7 days. Copies in your camera roll and on Instagram must be deleted separately.

Other information

To delete other information such as your activity history in Edits, you need to delete your Instagram account, because Edits is part of Instagram. After a deletion request there is a 30-day wait, and the process can take up to 90 days to finish; copies may remain in backups.

Export

When you export your Instagram data, your Edits information is included (HTML or JSON). The request needs your Instagram password; the download link arrives by email within up to 30 days. Deleted content is not in the file.

Where the settings are

You manage notification settings in Edits from your profile picture at the top right. Password, two-factor authentication, account status and downloading your data are handled in Instagram settings and affect Instagram too.

This page is not legal advice on personal data or KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law). If you will film footage that belongs to a client, get their consent and review Meta's privacy policy.

Music and copyright in Edits: can you use it in business videos?

In Edits you add music from the Audio tool: you can search the library, or import an audio file from your phone or the audio of another video. The official help article splits audio into two kinds:

Allowed
  • Original audio you record yourself: if you share it as a Reel from a public account, others can use it too
  • Licensed music from the Instagram audio library, when you share it as a Reel on Instagram
Not allowed
  • Licensed audio longer than 60 seconds is not included in the downloaded video
  • If licensing agreements change, the audio of a shared Reel may be muted (the video stays viewable)
  • Licensed audio is linked to the artist and track name. If audio you uploaded is detected as licensed, your Reel may be added to that song's page and the credit switches from "Original Audio" to the artist.
  • If it was misidentified, you can remove it with "Remove From Audio Page" in the menu under the Reel.

The official page does not separately say whether Edits music can be used on business accounts, in ads or in branded content. Check this against Instagram's rules for music and business accounts. This is not legal advice.

Common Edits problems and fixes

What happensWhat to do
I can't sign inEdits only works with an Instagram account. If you changed your Instagram password, sign in to Instagram first, then come back to Edits with "Log in with Instagram". Password and two-factor authentication are managed in Instagram.
Automatic captions are incomplete or not generated at allReported by users Store reviews report parts of the captions not being added; this is not an official issue report. Make sure the spoken language is selected correctly and type the missing lines by hand in the bulk editor.
Licensed music is missing from the downloaded videoOfficial rule: licensed audio longer than 60 seconds is not included in the downloaded video. If you share it as a Reel on Instagram, the audio plays.
The "Made with Edits" icon is missingThe icon appears when you share the video from Edits to Instagram. If you uploaded it another way, official sources don't say whether it appears.
Changes made after exporting didn't show up in the videoChanges in the project are not applied to a video you already exported. Export the video again (Next › Download); send the Instagram draft again too.
Restyle doesn't work or the clip is too longThe clip must be 10 seconds at most; if it is longer, split or trim it. In fast-moving scenes (such as sports), results are weaker than in slow-moving scenes.
I can't find it on iPad or computerIt doesn't exist: Edits is a phone app only. The App Store page says "Only for iPhone".

Store reviews also report audio/video drift, quality loss on export and freezing. These are individual user experiences; the official pages don't confirm them. If you run into problems, update the app and use the report-a-problem link on Instagram's "Edits" help page.

How do you delete Edits or close your account?

Edits has no account or subscription of its own; it is tied to your Instagram account. The official Help Center has no separate subscription cancellation or refund page for Edits.

  1. Delete only your videos: In Edits, Projects › press and hold the project › Move to Trash. It can be restored within 7 days.
  2. Temporarily turn off Edits: If you temporarily deactivate your Instagram account, Edits is deactivated too.
  3. Delete everything: Instagram › Profile › Menu › Accounts Center › Profiles and personal details › Manage › Deactivation or deletion › choose the account › Delete account. You can come back within 30 days.

Export your data before deleting the account. If you made in-app purchases, cancellation and refunds follow the store's (Apple or Google) rules; official sources list no separate refund policy for Edits.
