What Is Recordly? Free Screen Recorder and Demo Editor: Auto Zoom, License, Turkish Support and Setup

With Recordly you record your screen; it zooms in automatically based on cursor movement, smooths the cursor, and adds a background, frame and shadow to produce a product demo. It is a free desktop editor (Electron); the site says it is “completely free and open source, with no paywalls or hidden limits.” It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and no account is needed. The license is AGPL-3.0 with additional terms. The interface has no Turkish. Automatic captions appear in a release note, but language support is not documented.

What does Recordly do?

With Recordly you record your screen (or a single window), your microphone and system audio; when the recording ends, the editor opens. The editor adds automatic zoom based on cursor movement, smooths the cursor, adds a background, frame and shadow, can show your camera as a bubble in the corner, and exports the result as MP4 or GIF.

Automatic zoom is computed from cursor activity; the documentation makes no machine-learning claim. Who it helps: developers and content creators making product demos, walkthrough videos or GIFs.

How do you install Recordly? License and naming rule

  1. Download the file for your operating system from github.com/webadderallorg/Recordly/releases (Windows .exe, macOS .dmg, Linux AppImage).
  2. Open it, pick the screen or window, choose microphone and system audio, and start recording; when you stop, the editor opens.
  3. Arch/Manjaro: yay -S recordly-bin

Requirements: macOS 14+, Windows 10 build 19041+, a current Linux. Linux has no cursor hiding; on older Windows the real cursor may appear in the recording. Projects are stored on the device as .recordly files. Latest release: v1.4.0 (September 8, 2026).

License: the README and LICENSE.md say AGPL-3.0, but GitHub shows the license as “Other” because LICENSE.md contains additional terms: you may not use the “Recordly” name or brand for your own project, and if you build a derivative from Recordly code you must credit Recordly in the interface and the repository. Windows SmartScreen and code-signing status are not stated; download only from the official releases page.

Is Recordly available in Turkish? Does it have captions?

Turkish interfaceNoTurkish is not among the interface languages (the language folder in the source code: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese). The translation guide lists only three languages, which contradicts the folder.
Automatic captionsUnclearThe v1.4.0 release note mentions an “auto-captions” fix and the source code has a local Whisper pipeline; the README does not describe it. Caption languages, Turkish support and model size are not in the official documentation.

No official privacy policy is visible; official sources do not make clear whether recordings leave the device (projects are stored locally). See the FAQ on the site for details.

Where does Recordly store my recordings?

Local

Projects are stored on your device as .recordly files; no account is needed and there is no paid plan. Automatic captions run on a local Whisper pipeline (source code); there is no official statement on whether recordings go to the cloud.

Privacy policy

There is no official privacy policy or telemetry statement, and no statement specific to KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law). If you record a sensitive screen, keep the output on your own device.
