10 ChatGPT prompt codes and how to use them properly
From truthmode to Lindymode: a short instruction at the start of your message changes the tone of the answer. It's not a secret command, but once you define it, it works consistently.
Short answer
10 short instructions for ChatGPT: truthmode, ELI10, redteam, Hormozi, /human, Future you, Unlearn, 80/20, Socrates and Lindymode. These are not secret commands; ChatGPT can guess some of them and not others, so once their meanings are written into custom instructions (or into project instructions in Claude), they give the same result every time. The code goes at the start of the message, at most two codes are combined, and a code changes the tone of the answer but does not guarantee its accuracy.

Get to know the codes.
truthmode brings brutally honest criticism, ELI10 the simplicity of explaining to a 10-year-old, redteam a devil's advocate, Hormozi coaching focused on offers and sales, and /human cliché-free human language. Future you means looking back from years ahead, Unlearn common misconceptions, 80/20 the 3 most effective steps, Socrates teaching by asking questions, and Lindymode methods that have been tried and tested for a long time.
Paste the definitions once.
In ChatGPT, paste them into Settings > Personalization > Custom instructions; in Claude, into the Project instructions. If you hit the field's character limit, include only the codes you'll use most. The first part of the text:
If my message contains one of the codes below, answer accordingly. Don't explain the code, apply it. If there are two codes, combine them. /truthmode: Be brutally honest. No praise, no softening. Name the 3 weakest points and suggest a fix for each one. ELI10: Explain it as if to a 10-year-old. Short sentences, everyday examples; explain any technical term in one sentence. redteam: Be the devil's advocate. Find the 3-5 strongest objections to my idea or plan, and suggest a short answer to each.Put the code at the start of your message.
Code first, then your task. Combine at most two codes in the same message; more than that can make the answer unfocused. Example:
redteam 80/20 I'm thinking of raising the price of my summer English course from [old price] to [new price]. Class size: [number of people]. First, write the 3 strongest objections to this decision. Then suggest a single change that would address most of them.Choose the code for the situation.
truthmode if you're not sure your text is good, redteam before a decision, Hormozi for an offer that isn't selling, /human for text that sounds robotic. 80/20 if you have too much to do, Socrates if you really want to learn, and Lindymode for topics like health, money and law, where a mistake is expensive.
Check the answer.
A code changes the tone and format of the answer; it does not guarantee its accuracy. Even with Lindymode, ChatGPT may make up sources, so open any source it gives you. Don't write personal data such as client names, health information or legal case details alongside any code.
How to measure it
For one week, ask for the same task with and without a code, and put the two answers side by side. Keep in your definitions only the codes that make a real difference in your work.

Frequently asked questions
Are there really secret codes in ChatGPT?
No. These are short instructions written at the start of a message. ChatGPT can guess common ones like ELI10 and 80/20, but not ones like Lindymode and truthmode; if you write their meanings into custom instructions once, they work consistently.
Which code should I use, and when?
redteam before a decision, ELI10 to explain a complex topic, 80/20 when you have too much to do. The favorite in the video is Socrates: instead of giving a direct answer, it teaches by asking questions.
