11 free Claude skills for your YouTube channel: how to install YouTube Agent Skill (step by step)

Scripts, title + thumbnail, cut list, comment replies, weekly plan and viral video analysis: all in Claude with a single install. Free and open source; it never publishes anything on your behalf.

Short answer

YouTube Agent Skill is a free package of 11 Claude skills for YouTube channels, shared by Jake Schincariol on GitHub under the MIT license. /yt-script writes a script from 21 hook formulas and scores the hook, /yt-package checks the title and thumbnail text together, /yt-edit produces a cut list with timestamps from the transcript, /yt-comment sorts comments into four piles and writes replies in your tone, /yt-plan plans your week as one main video, one light video and three Shorts, and /yt-viral finds the videos in your niche that outperform their own channel's average many times over and names the pattern. It requires no sign-up, API key or channel connection; it doesn't publish anything: it writes, and you upload. This page covers installation, a first test, preparing voice.md and what each of the 11 commands does. Claude's outputs differ slightly every time; don't expect results identical to the examples here.

  1. Know what you're installing.

YouTube Agent Skill is a free, open-source (MIT license) package of 11 Claude skills written for YouTube channels. A skill is a ready-made instruction package that has Claude do a specific job using a specific method; it's invoked with a command like /yt-script. It requires no sign-up, API key or channel connection. It never publishes anything on your behalf: it writes and checks; you do the uploading.

  2. Choose which Claude to use.

The smoothest route is Claude Code (Claude running on your computer; it requires a paid Claude subscription or a Console account). If it isn't installed, paste irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex into PowerShell on Windows or curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash into Terminal on Mac, then type claude in the terminal and sign in with your Claude account. Details are on the official installation page. The package's six Python tools (hook score, title check, cut list, etc.) only work fully in an environment that can run files, such as Claude Code.

  3. Install the package: the easiest way.

Open Claude Code; you'll see an empty chat. Copy the two lines below exactly as they are, paste them and send. Claude downloads the repository and installs the skills; if it asks for permission, read the request and approve it. The message being in English is no problem; if you ask in Turkish, the answers come in Turkish.

Install this skill, then confirm /yt-script works.
  4. Or install it manually.

If you want to install it yourself, run these two commands in the terminal (Git must be installed). The skills are copied to the ~/.claude/skills/ folder and show up in all your projects. If you only want to use them in one project, copy the same folders into that project's .claude/skills/ folder. If you'd rather install it as a plugin, type /plugin marketplace add Jakeschincariol/youtube-agent-skill in Claude Code, followed by /plugin install youtube-agent.

    git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/youtube-agent-skill.git
    cp -r youtube-agent-skill/skills/yt-* ~/.claude/skills/
  5. Check that it works.

Close and reopen Claude Code and type /: if commands like /yt-script and /yt-package appear in the list, the installation is complete. To test it, type /yt-script and describe a video idea in a single sentence (e.g. "A video showing café owners how to shoot menu photos in 3 minutes"). You can also send the command empty; Claude will ask you for the missing information.

  6. Set aside 10 minutes for voice.md.

Every skill in the package reads the voice.md file that describes how you talk; this file shapes the result more than anything else. The file lives at ~/.claude/youtube/voice.md. The easiest way: send Claude the scripts of your 3 best videos (the subtitles/transcript in YouTube Studio) and say "write my voice.md from these". The template has these headings: who you're talking to, how you talk, words you never use, phrases you use often, things you won't claim, and your video format.

  7. Get to know the 11 commands.

The six commands featured in the video are in the first six lines; the other five come with the same package:

    • /yt-script: from idea to script; 5 hooks from 21 hook formulas, scores, then the voiceover script.
    • /yt-package: checks the title and thumbnail text as a single package (truncation, repetition, vagueness).
    • /yt-edit: a cut list with timestamps from the transcript; dead air, filler words, retakes.
    • /yt-comment: sorts comments into 4 piles, writes replies in your tone and tells you which one to pin.
    • /yt-plan: a week based on the hours you can spare; 1 main video, 1 light video, 3 Shorts.
    • /yt-viral: ranks the videos in your niche that most outperform their own channel's average and names the pattern.
    • /yt-retention: reads an audience retention export; drop-off at the hook, falling points, what should change.
    • /yt-shorts: finds Shorts candidates inside a long video and writes a new first line for each.
    • /yt-seo: a description, tags that actually help and the 3 searches the video should win.
    • /yt-chapters: chapter titles from the transcript that follow YouTube's rules.
    • /yt-audit: reviews the whole channel and ends with a single fix instead of 20 suggestions.
  8. Try your first week in this order.

    • Monday: plan your week with /yt-plan (say how many hours a week you can spare).
    • Main video: prepare the script with /yt-script, and the title and thumbnail text with /yt-package.
    • After filming: give it the subtitle file (.srt) and let /yt-edit produce the cut list.
    • After publishing: copy the comments and give them to /yt-comment; read the replies and send them yourself.
    • Weekend: look at the standout videos in your niche with /yt-viral and pick next week's idea from there.
  9. Know its limits.

    • It doesn't publish or connect to your channel: every skill ends with text for you to copy and the question "publish, or change?".
    • The hook score is an estimation tool: a low score means "take another look"; a high score doesn't guarantee views.
    • /yt-viral doesn't sign in: it only reads public lists and never accesses your account. A comparison needs at least 4 videos per channel.
    • It doesn't make up numbers: it asks you for any figure it doesn't know, or writes that line without a number.
    • The package is written in English; it produces Turkish output when you ask for Turkish, but some of the hook formulas may not have the same effect in Turkish; read them out loud and decide.

How to measure it

For two weeks, check the title of every video with /yt-package, and in YouTube Studio compare the impressions click-through rate (CTR) and the audience retention in the first 30 seconds with your previous videos. If nothing changes, first update voice.md with your own real video scripts.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

The package is free and open source (MIT). You need Claude to use it; Claude Code requires a paid Claude subscription or a Console account.

Does it connect to my channel and upload videos?

No. It requires no channel connection, sign-in or API key; it only writes and checks. You do the uploading and make the final call.

I don't use Claude Code; will it still work?

Partly. According to the package's description, if you paste any SKILL.md file at the start of a chat, that skill works like a mode; but the Python tools won't run, and the strongest part of /yt-script, /yt-retention and /yt-edit is lost.

Does it work in Turkish?

The commands are in English, but when you write in Turkish it answers in Turkish. If you fill voice.md with your own Turkish video scripts, the result sounds more like you.
