What is Grammarly? Turkish support, free plan, Pro pricing, canceling and student discount

You install Grammarly in your browser, Word, email or phone keyboard; it flags mistakes and improves sentences where you write. Its strongest language is English. Turkish is one of 23 supported languages: it flags Turkish spelling and basic grammar mistakes for free, but AI writing only works with English text. The free plan includes 100 AI prompts a month; Pro is $144 a year ($12 a month on average) and has a 7-day trial. The company took the name Superhuman in October 2025; the Grammarly name continues.

What does Grammarly do?

Grammarly runs in the background as you write: it underlines spelling and grammar mistakes, suggests making a sentence clearer or more polite, and fixes it in one click. Paid plans also rewrite full sentences, adjust tone, and check for plagiarism and signs of AI writing.

An important limit: its real strength is English. For Turkish there is only spelling and basic grammar checking; AI drafting requires English text. Details are in the "Turkish" section.

Who it helps: Business owners, students, consultants and content creators who write emails, proposals, articles or assignments in English. If you only write in Turkish, the benefit is limited.

How do you install Grammarly? Word, Chrome and phone

First create a free account (with email, Google, Facebook or Apple). The account keeps your settings the same on every device. Grammarly is cloud-based and does not work without an internet connection. You can also write in the editor at app.grammarly.com without installing anything.

  1. Install the Grammarly extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari from its store (Opera and Brave are not supported).
  2. In Gmail, Google Docs and other sites, a Grammarly button appears in the text field; in Google Docs, the button at the bottom right opens the sidebar.
  3. In Safari, the extension is off by default on each site; turn it on with the "Allow on every website" option.

If you switch to Superhuman Go in the extension, Go replaces the generative AI features; the underlines and the Grammarly button stay.

How do you use Grammarly?

  1. Sign in with your account and install the extension or the app.
  2. Start writing. Mistakes are marked with a red underline (spelling, punctuation, basic grammar), and clarity and tone suggestions with a blue underline.
  3. Hover over or click the underlined word; click a suggestion to accept it, or choose "Dismiss" if you don't want it.
  4. Click the Grammarly icon on screen to see all suggestions. Suggestions are grouped into clarity, correctness, engagement and delivery.
  5. If proper names you use often get flagged, add them to your personal dictionary.
English customer email (AI prompt)"Write a polite email to a customer explaining that their order will be delayed by three days and offering a 10% discount on the next purchase."AI features need English prompts and text; if you write in Turkish, you get the "Hmm, don't know that language" error.
Rewrite a sentence"Rewrite this paragraph to sound more confident and concise."Select the text, click the pen or lightbulb icon that appears and type your request (full-sentence rewrites are on Pro).

Grammarly suggestions can be wrong. Check proper names, dates and technical terms before accepting.

AI features, agents, plagiarism and AI detection

Grammarly's AI side has three parts: prompt-based writing help, Superhuman Go and writing agents, and checking tools (plagiarism, AI detection).

Prompt allowance
  • Free: 100 prompts a month
  • Pro: 2,000 a month per member
  • Premium from the app stores: 1,000 a month
  • The allowance renews every month; when it runs out, suggestions (underlines) keep working and only the AI button disappears
Where it works

Chrome and Edge extensions, the Windows and Mac apps, Grammarly Editor and docs, iPhone, iPad, Android. Not in the Office add-in or the Safari and Firefox extensions.

Agents and Go

In a new document on app.grammarly.com, agents appear in the right panel: reader reactions, finding sources, grade prediction (AI Grader), rewriting and more. Most can be tried on Free, some are paid only. Superhuman Go is also included with a Pro subscription.

Plagiarism and AI detection

The pricing page shows it as not on Free and on Pro. The agents page, however, says most agents can be tried for free; if it is locked on your account, it is in the paid tier.

  • AI features can be turned off and on from the "Feature customization" page in account settings; on teams, admins decide.
  • Agents don't remember anything between sessions; the only exception is the voice profile built from a writing sample you upload.
  • All AI features require English text.

Where can you use Grammarly?

It works in six places with the same account. For most people, the browser extension is enough.

Does Grammarly support Turkish?

Short answer: Turkish spell checking exists and is free, but Grammarly's strongest features are for English. Turkish is among the 23 officially supported languages. It detects the language itself, so no setting is needed; one document can contain several languages.

Turkish spelling and basic grammar (red underline)YesYes, free. Applies to web, Windows, Mac, the browser extension and mobile.
Clarity, fluency and tone suggestions (blue underline)UnclearTwo official pages conflict. The languages page lists these only for English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian; a support article (beta) also lists Turkish. It is a paid feature; on Free there is a limit of 3 accepted suggestions a day.
AI drafting and rewritingNoEnglish text only. A request in Turkish returns the "Hmm, don't know that language" error. Paragraph rewriting is also limited to 6 languages (no Turkish).
Inline translationYesPaid feature; Turkish is among the translation languages. The page does not separately state the direction (Turkish to English, or the reverse).
Menu and interface languageUnclearThe iPhone app comes in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish; no Turkish. For web and desktop, official sources don't mention a Turkish interface.
Typing Turkish on the phone keyboardNoKeyboard typing is limited to 6 languages (English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish). Most App Store reviews in Turkey ask for this.

To check Turkish text for free, the browser extension is enough. Before buying a paid plan for Turkish sentence improvements and tone, test it with your own text during the 7-day trial.

What happens to what I write in Grammarly? Training, storage, deletion

Model training

On individual accounts (Free, Premium and single-user Pro), "Product Improvement and Training" is on by default: your content may be used to train AI models. Turn it off with the toggle at account.grammarly.com/security/privacy for Free and Premium, or account.grammarly.com/admin/data_settings for single-user Pro. On multi-user Pro, only the admin can change it. Even if you turn it off, non-content data such as writing statistics may be collected.

Sales and third parties

The company says it does not sell or monetize your content. It states that it does not allow AI service providers to train models on user content.

Where data is stored

Data is kept in Amazon Web Services data centers in the US East region; TLS 1.2 is used in transit and AES-256 encryption at rest. The responsible company is US-based Superhuman Platform Inc. The official pages have no separate provision on KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law).

Deleting your account and data

"Delete Account" on the Profile page: your account information and the documents stored in the editor are deleted, and this can't be undone. Superhuman users write to care@superhuman.com. To delete while a paid subscription is active, you need to open a support request.

Voice typing

The iPhone app says "voice recordings are not stored and are deleted when you're done".

Before pasting text that names a customer, student or patient, turn off the training setting and mask the names. This is not legal advice; if you will regularly work with company data, read the data terms of the team plan.

Does Grammarly have a student discount?

Yes, but for a limited time. The official help page says eligible students can get 50% off Grammarly Pro with SheerID verification. The discount applies to one subscription period only, can't be combined with other offers, and does not apply to App Store or Google Play purchases.

  • The help page doesn't say whether the offer covers students in Turkey; you can check by searching for your school on the SheerID verification page.
  • Grammarly does not give the discount as a coupon code. Codes found online are not from Grammarly.
  • If your school has a Grammarly for Education agreement, you get access with your school account; no separate subscription is needed.

How do you cancel a Grammarly subscription, and can you get a refund?

  1. Sign in to your account and go to Your account › Subscription from the Account tab on the left.
  2. Click "Cancel Subscription" at the bottom of the page, choose Continue, pick a reason and confirm.
  3. On a phone, you can cancel at account.grammarly.com/subscription.
  4. If you bought it from the App Store, cancel in Apple's subscription settings.
What does canceling mean?
  • Canceling stops auto-renewal; you keep paid features until the end of the period.
  • If you cancel the 7-day trial, the trial ends immediately and the account returns to the free plan; your documents are not lost.
  • If you subscribe through a Superhuman account, canceling from your Grammarly account also applies to the other Superhuman apps.
Refunds

You can cancel at any time, but the Terms of Service only grant refunds when required by law. For App Store purchases, refunds are requested from Apple. Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription; cancel first.
