What is Hostinger VPS for?

A VPS (virtual private server) is a portion of a physical server set aside for you: the CPU, RAM and disk are yours alone. Unlike shared hosting, you can install any software you want (full root access) and host services that run continuously. In automation packages, n8n and helper services such as an inbox or CRM run on this kind of server; Hostinger VPS is one of the options for it.

Ready-made OS templates shorten setup: n8n (standard, queue mode, or with 100+ ready-made workflows), Coolify (deploy apps and databases from a panel) and other applications. The panel has an AI-assisted web terminal, firewall management and a Docker manager.

Who it's for: businesses and agencies that want to run n8n on their own server with unlimited workflows and executions, and can handle basic server maintenance over SSH.

How do you install n8n on Hostinger VPS?

  1. Choose a plan: Pick a KVM plan on the n8n page; choose the billing term and data center.
  2. Choose the template: "Ubuntu 24.04 with n8n" (n8n comes installed in Docker). For heavy workloads, "n8n (queue mode)": a Redis queue and 3 workers by default.
  3. Open the interface: Go to https://n8n.[VPS-hostname] in your browser; create the admin account on first login.
  4. Optionally connect your own domain: Following Hostinger's guide to changing the n8n domain.
  5. Build your first workflow: New Workflow, add a trigger (Webhook or schedule) and action nodes, test with Execute Workflow, save.
How do you update n8n?

Updating is your job. Hostinger's guide gives these commands over SSH (the n8n folder is /docker/n8n):

Updating n8n (commands from the guide; the cd line switches to the folder)› cd /docker/n8n docker compose pull docker compose down docker compose up -d

Settings (public URL, time zone, queue mode) are in the environment section of the docker-compose.yml file in the same folder; put passwords and API keys in the .env file.

The n8n version the template installs is not stated on the official page; after setup, check the version in the n8n interface and take a backup or snapshot before updating.

n8n guide: workflows, pricing and hosting options

Backups, snapshots and security

Weekly backup

Included in the plan and on by default. Two weekly and two daily backups are kept; the backup time can't be changed.

Daily backup

Purchased separately (Backups & Monitoring › Manage Schedule).

Snapshot

Taken manually; 1 is kept at a time and deleted after 1 day. It's a short-term restore point before changes.

Security

DDoS filtering, firewall management and a scanner that finds and removes malicious files.

In Hostinger's words: you are responsible for the virtual server, while Hostinger takes care of the physical servers' speed, uptime and stability. So this is not a managed service: OS and n8n updates, passwords and access rules are your job. A restore overwrites everything on the server and can't be undone.

Alternatives for n8n and a license note

Note: DijiKoçum's website is hosted on Hostinger. That's why the comparison contains no praise; check the prices and terms of the options below on their own official pages.

  • n8n Cloud: n8n's own hosted service if you don't want to manage a server.
  • Hetzner, Railway: other VPS and app hosting providers.
  • Your own server with Coolify: for deploying several apps from one panel; Coolify can be installed on any server.
The license for self-hosted n8n

On your own server, n8n comes under the Sustainable Use License: you may run the software only for your own internal business purposes or for non-commercial/personal use. Offering n8n to others as a paid service is outside this scope. The version that runs without a license key is the free Community edition.
