What Is Postiz? Social Media Scheduling, Connecting an AI Assistant via MCP, Pricing and Self-Hosting

In Postiz (postiz.com) you write, schedule and publish social media posts for 34 platforms, including X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, from a single calendar. Every plan includes a hosted MCP server, a command-line tool (CLI) and an API, so you can tell an assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor "schedule this post for 10 tomorrow." The cloud version has no free plan: after a 7-day trial it starts at $29/month (5 channels). Because it is open source (AGPL-3.0), you can self-host it for free with Docker; in that case you register each platform's developer app yourself.

What does Postiz do?

When you manage several social media accounts, logging into each platform separately to post takes time and things get missed. Postiz brings your accounts (Postiz calls them channels) into one place: you write a post once, adapt it per platform and schedule it on a calendar. The new part is the AI side: thanks to MCP (the standard that connects an AI assistant to a service), you can have Claude or ChatGPT schedule posts from a plain sentence.

Who it's for: social media managers and agencies handling several brand or client accounts, people who want to hand content creation and scheduling to an AI assistant, and teams that want to keep their data on their own server.

The atlas also has Zernio and Upload-Post, which do the same job with an API and MCP focus; Postiz's difference is that it is open source: you can also run it on your own server.

An alternative with API and MCP, priced per account: Zernio guide.

How do you use Postiz?

  1. Sign up: Sign up at postiz.com and choose a plan (there's no free plan; new organizations are usually offered a 7-day trial). On a self-hosted install, the first person to sign up becomes the organization owner.
  2. Connect a channel: In the calendar, "Add Channel" in the left menu; depending on the platform, you either go to the platform's own consent screen, enter an API key, or connect with the browser extension.
  3. Write and adapt: Write the post; you can edit it separately for each platform's character and image limits.
  4. Schedule: Pick a date and time; the post appears on the calendar.
  5. Check: After publishing, track from the calendar that the post went out and how it performs.

Connecting Postiz to Claude and other assistants (MCP, CLI)

Postiz's MCP server gives the assistant 13 tools: list connected accounts, learn platform rules, schedule a post, save a draft or publish immediately, list scheduled posts, generate images and video, and extract clips from video. First get your API key in Postiz under Settings then Developers; the same page also generates a ready configuration block for the client you choose.

  1. Go to the Customize then Connectors page.
  2. Choose "+ Add" and then "Add custom connector"; enter a name.
  3. Remote MCP URL: https://mcp.postiz.com/mcp/your-api-key (replace your-api-key with your own Postiz key).
  4. Review the authentication settings and finish with "Continue".

The path comes from the Claude Help Center article on custom connectors, the URL from the Postiz MCP documentation. Custom connectors are available on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans; at most one on Free. The Postiz documentation also shows the claude_desktop_config.json route; Claude's documentation describes that file for local MCP servers.

Have the assistant schedule it"Schedule this on my X account for 10:00 AM tomorrow: "We're excited to announce our new feature!""What you get: following the flow in the docs, the assistant first lists connected accounts, learns X's character limit and rules, then schedules the post in the right format. The post appears on the Postiz calendar.
Clips and drafts from a video"Extract vertical clips from this YouTube video and prepare an Instagram and TikTok draft for each: <video URL>"What you get: clipping takes a few minutes; the assistant starts the job, checks its status and when it's done puts the captioned clips in the media library and the drafts in the channels you chose (MCP examples). Clipping is disabled during the trial.

MCP can't currently read or reply to comments (Postiz FAQ); comment replies are done in the Postiz interface. If you don't use Postiz's own AI features, MCP doesn't need an OpenAI key: your assistant provides the model.

Which platforms does it work with?

According to the docs, 34 platforms are supported; the table in the docs has 35 rows, with Instagram and TikTok on separate rows for their two connection types:

GroupPlatforms
Major social networksX, LinkedIn and LinkedIn Page, Instagram (via a Facebook business account or standalone), Facebook Page, Threads, TikTok and TikTok Business, YouTube, Pinterest, Reddit
Local businessGoogle My Business
Community and chatDiscord, Slack, Telegram, Skool, Whop, MeWe, VK, Tumblr
Streaming and liveTwitch, Kick, Dribbble
Decentralized networksBluesky, Mastodon, Lemmy, Farcaster, Nostr, Moltbook
Blogs and newslettersWordPress, Medium, Dev.to, Hashnode, ListMonk

Twitch, Kick, VK, Nostr, Lemmy, Medium, Dev.to, Hashnode, WordPress, ListMonk and Moltbook currently connect only through the API (and the CLI and MCP that use it); the interface has no connect buttons for them (platform documentation).

On X the character limit depends on the account: normally 280, 4,000 for verified accounts, 100,000 in long-article mode.

Free self-hosted installation

Can I use it without code? Yes, the cloud version (platform.postiz.com) needs no installation. Self-hosting is for someone who knows how to run a server: the software is free, but server costs, updates and backups are on you.

1. Download the official Docker Compose repository› git clone https://github.com/gitroomhq/postiz-docker-compose cd postiz-docker-compose

2. Set the variables: Postiz is configured entirely through environment variables. The docs give three ways: in docker-compose.yml, in a postiz.env file mounted into the Postiz container, or (not recommended) in a .env file next to it. The list is on the "Configuration Reference" page.

3. Start it in the cloned folder› docker compose up

Once running, the interface opens at http://localhost:4007 and the workflow monitoring screen (Temporal) at http://localhost:8080. The bundle brings Postiz, PostgreSQL, Redis and Temporal together.

My data, the API key and Turkish

API key

The key doesn't expire on its own; if it leaks, the only fix is to regenerate it under Settings then Developers. When you regenerate it, every MCP client connected with the old key stops working.

MCP permissions

MCP lists your accounts, schedules posts and can also publish immediately; it can't read comments.

Data location

In the cloud, Postiz manages the data; the country isn't stated in the documentation. Self-hosted, the data stays on your infrastructure.

Turkish

The open-source repository has a Turkish interface translation file; how complete it is and how it's selected in the interface aren't stated in the documentation.

On the MCP route where the key is embedded in the URL (/mcp/<key>), the URL works like a password: anyone who knows it can post to your accounts; don't share the configuration file.
