What Are Claude Knowledge Work Plugins? Role Plugins, Setup, Example Use and Plans

You install the plugin that matches your role in Claude; Claude then works with that role's skills (job recipes), connectors (links to services such as a CRM, email and chat) and commands: sales, customer support, marketing, product management, finance, data, legal, HR, design, operations, small business and more. Knowledge Work Plugins (github.com/anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins) is the official repo of these Anthropic plugins and also the Knowledge Work plugin marketplace that comes by default in Claude. The plugins are free and Apache-2.0 licensed; using them in the Claude app requires a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan. They are written mainly for Claude Cowork and also work in Claude Code.

What do Knowledge Work Plugins do?

Explaining to Claude from scratch on every job "how do you want me to work, which tools do we use" gets tiring. The plugins in this repo bring that explanation ready-made. A plugin is a package that adds several pieces to Claude in one install: skills are instruction files that explain step by step how to do a job, connectors link Claude to services such as HubSpot, Slack, Notion and Gmail, and commands are shortcuts you call by hand, such as /sales:call-prep. According to the repo, every piece is a markdown or JSON file: no code, server or build step.

Who it's for: teams that use Claude for sales, marketing, customer support, finance or operations work, and people running a business on their own. The plugins are a generic starting point; the README says the real value comes when you adapt a plugin to your own tools, terms and processes.

How it differs from the Anthropic Agent Skills repo

Anthropic Agent Skills (anthropics/skills) collects individual skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF document skills plus example skills. Knowledge Work Plugins packages a role's skills, connectors and commands together. One answers "how is a document prepared", the other "how does a salesperson work"; both can be installed together.

For document skills and installing individual skills, read the Anthropic Agent Skills guide.

The detailed guide to this repo's finance plugin (journal entries, reconciliation, variance analysis).

How does a plugin work?

You add the pluginCustomize then Plugins in Claude, or marketplace + install in Claude Code.
Optionally you connect your toolsCRM, email, calendar, chat; without connecting, it also works with pasted text or files.
You describe the jobA skill kicks in on its own when it fits, or you call it with /.
You get drafts and reportsSteps like sending or updating records happen only when you ask.
Skills and commands work in chat, Cowork and Claude Code; hooks and subagents only in Cowork and Claude Code (Help Center).

Every plugin's folder has the same structure: .claude-plugin/plugin.json (definition and version), .mcp.json (connector addresses) and a skills/ folder. The connectors in Anthropic's plugins are remote MCP addresses running on the services' own servers; the only exception is the PDF viewer, which starts a small PDF server on your computer.

Which plugins are there? Package contents

The README's table lists 11 plugins; the repo holds 6 more Anthropic plugins. Skill counts are based on the SKILL.md files in the repo (October 29, 2026).

The marketplace file (marketplace.json) lists 123 plugins in total; some come from the own repos of companies such as Canva, Zapier, HubSpot and Hostinger and are not made by Anthropic.

Note on Turkey: the small-business plugin connects to global services such as QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, Stripe and PayPal; there are no ready-made connectors in the list for Turkish e-invoicing (e-Fatura) and accounting services. The skill texts are in English; the official sources say nothing about Turkish replies or a Turkish interface.

Don't install the same skill from two different plugins: for example, small-business also includes sales and marketing workflows. Start with the plugin you need and add a second one if something is missing.

How do you install Knowledge Work Plugins?

  1. Open Customize: Customize in the left sidebar. In Cowork, open the Cowork tab first.
  2. Find the plugin: Plugins tab › Discover. The Knowledge Work marketplace comes added by default.
  3. Add it: Select the plugin and press the "Add" button. The plugin is saved to your account and also syncs to Claude Code when you sign in with the same account.

Help Center: plugins are used in chat on the web, in the Chat tab of Claude Desktop and in Cowork. On the Enterprise plan, an admin can restrict which plugins can be installed.

How do you use them? Examples

You can call a skill by name or describe the job in a plain sentence; Claude picks the right skill. In chat and Cowork, typing "/" or pressing the "+" button lists the skills from your plugins.

Sales call prep"/sales:call-prep I have a first call with Harbor Logistics tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Research the company, write short profiles of the people I'll meet, and suggest an agenda and the questions I should ask."What you get: per the plugin page's description, company info and key people, a suggested agenda and discovery questions. If a CRM is connected, past records are used too; if not, it works with web search and your notes.
Campaign plan"/marketing:campaign-plan Plan a 4-week Instagram and email campaign for our café's winter menu. The target audience is college students; the budget is limited."What you get: per the plugin page's description, goals, channel strategy, a content calendar and success metrics. Then you can have it write individual post copy with /marketing:draft-content.
Getting started in a small business"get me started"According to the small-business plugin's README, this starts a 15-minute setup: it connects your first two tools, runs one job once with real data, and learns your business and brand colors. Then you carry on with plain sentences such as "Who owes me money?" or "Can I make payroll this month?"

The small-business plugin asks for approval at every step: nothing is sent, published or paid without your approval. The README states that it doesn't give financial, tax, legal or HR advice and that outputs must be checked.

Adapting a plugin to your business

The README describes the plugins as a generic starting point and lists four ways to adapt them:

  • Swap connectors: list the tools you actually use in the .mcp.json file.
  • Add company context: write your terminology, team structure and processes into the skill files.
  • Adjust workflows: change the skill instructions to match how your team actually works.
  • Build a new plugin: with the cowork-plugin-management plugin or the same folder structure.

When you open an installed plugin in Cowork, the "Customize" button at the top right starts a new task in which you adapt the skills and connectors together with Claude. On Team and Enterprise plans you can share a plugin you uploaded or created in Customize with coworkers, or submit it to your organization's library; sharing requires the owner to turn on the sharing setting, and submitting to the library requires a separate Publishing setting. A plugin added from a marketplace can't be shared or submitted to the library (Help Center).

What do the plugins access?

Reads

Text you paste and files you upload; if you turn on connectors, CRM, email, calendar, chat, document and data warehouse data.

Writes and sends

Produces drafts, tables and reports. When you ask, the sales plugin updates CRM records, creates or sends email drafts, posts chat messages and schedules meetings.

Runs on your computer

In Anthropic's plugins the connectors are on remote servers; pdf-viewer starts a PDF server on your computer with npx. In Claude Code, a plugin runs on your computer with all its parts.

Organization

On Enterprise, an admin can restrict plugins and turn off local MCP servers; if scanning is on, plugins with malicious content are blocked.

Official warning: plugins can include local MCP servers that run on your computer with your permissions; install plugins only from sources you trust. Other companies' plugins in the marketplace list are not made by Anthropic.

Are Knowledge Work Plugins free?

The repo and plugins are free. In the Claude app, according to the Help Center, plugins are available on all paid plans (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise); plugin use on the free plan is not stated in the official sources. The services you connect (such as HubSpot, QuickBooks) have their own separate fees. For plan prices, see the Claude guide.
