What Is Magnific? Freepik Difference, Image Upscaling, Pricing, Free Plan and the “Unlimited” Limit
You upload an image to Magnific; it upscales and adds detail with AI. In the same place you generate images and video and download stock content. The Freepik brand became Magnific: same team and same account; the old magnific.ai is now open only to existing users, and new sign-ups happen at magnific.com. There is a free plan (20 images a day, 10 stock downloads a day, attribution required) and no free trial. The pricing page shows prices in local currency based on your location, excluding VAT; see the official pricing page for the price in your country. The “unlimited” on paid plans isn't truly unlimited: once priority usage runs out, generation slows down.

What is Magnific for?
Magnific started as an image upscaler: you upload a low-resolution photo and it sharpens it and upscales it to 4K and beyond. Classic upscales quickly and cleanly; Creative generates new texture and detail while upscaling; Precision stays faithful to the original (product photos, print prep). Under the same roof there is also text-to-image and video generation, background removal, retouching, relighting (Relight) and stock content.
There is also video upscaling to 4K and 60 fps, a desktop app (macOS and Windows) and a mobile app. Spaces lets you chain tools with nodes, an API lets you connect with code, and MCP lets you connect to assistants like Claude.
Who it suits: designers, photographers, e-commerce and agency staff, and anyone who needs to upscale images for print. If you only upscale a few images, the free plan may be enough.
Are Magnific and Freepik the same thing?
The official page says: “Freepik is now Magnific. Same team, same technology.” So the Freepik brand became Magnific; same team, same account. On the App Store the app is listed as “Magnific - AI Video & Image” (publisher Freepik Company), but its in-app purchases are still named “Freepik Premium”.
!The old magnific.ai is a separate “legacy” site: it is open only to existing users and does not accept new sign-ups. To cancel there, you sign in and use the Stripe billing portal under Billing. No official date for the rebrand appears to have been published; users report the end of April 2026.
How do you download Magnific and create an account?
- Go to magnific.com and click Sign in at the top right; create an account with email, Google or Apple. Facebook sign-in has been discontinued.
- You get immediate access to free content and limited AI tools.

Phone verification and a minimum age are not stated in the official documentation.
Which model? Magnific One, Mystic and others
Alongside its own models, Magnific offers more than 30 third-party image and video models from a single credit pool. Which models fall under “unlimited” depends on the plan.
| Model | What it's for, per Magnific | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Magnific One | Image model with built-in art direction: idea exploration in Draft, up to 4K in Final; Brand Kit support | High quality unlimited on Premium+, Pro, Business; Max quality uses credits |
| Mystic 2.5 / Flexible / Fluid / 1.0 | 2.5 is versatile with good prompt adherence; Flexible has the best prompt adherence (characters, brands); Fluid is faster; 1.0 gives detailed texture (portraits, posters) | Unlimited coverage is on a separate help center page |
| Classic / Classic Fast | Classic is a reliable general model; Fast is very fast and cheap | The “own model” on the free plan may be this family; not named in the official documentation |
| Upscalers: Classic, Creative, Precision | Classic is fast upscaling; Creative generates new texture; Precision stays faithful to the original | Precision: 90 credits per 2K image |
- Upscale a photo as is: Precision or Classic
- New detail while upscaling: Creative

- Realistic portraits and texture: Mystic
Max quality uses far more credits (example: Magnific One 2K Max 600, 4K Max 1,000 credits per image; High 2K 180, 4K 250).
The model list changes often; this section was checked on October 14, 2026.
Is Magnific free? Plans, credits, pricing and “unlimited”
There is a free plan, but no free trial (Magnific's help page says so explicitly). The free plan gives up to 20 images a day (only with Magnific's own model) and 10 stock downloads a day; attribution is required for stock and use is personal only.
- 20 images a day (own model)
- 10 stock downloads a day
- Batch upscaling: 2 images
- Commercial license
- Use without attribution
- Video generation
- 240,000 credits a year (20,000 a month)
- 100 stock downloads a day, no attribution

- Buying extra credits
- Magnific and Topaz upscalers, commercial license

No. Unlimited mode works with a “priority usage” bar; once it runs out, generations run one at a time and slowly (Fair Use Policy). This is the most common user complaint: Reported by users it comes up again and again in many Reddit threads. For consistent speed, credits are used. Buying extra credits on Premium, although listed in the pricing table, is available only on Premium+ and Pro according to the help center.
- Credits are only for AI tools; stock downloads have a separate limit. Plan credits reset at the end of the period; on a yearly plan the full yearly credit is given up front, not renewed monthly.
- Credits deducted for a failed generation are refunded automatically (this may take a few days).
- You connect from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex or VS Code via MCP (https://mcp.magnific.com); it is on all paid plans, and MCP actions always use credits, including models that are unlimited on your plan.

What happens to my uploads? Training, retention, deletion
Magnific states that content you upload or generate is not used for model training or fine-tuning (pricing page: “No model training on your data”).
Uploaded images and audio are deleted right after the synthetic content is generated; prompts and outputs are kept for the duration of the contract. The selected model providers may keep them for up to 30 days; some may be outside the EU.
Closing your account from the profile page is a deletion request. If you have an active subscription, cancel it first; deletion cannot be undone.
The privacy policy is GDPR-focused; there is no wording specific to KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law). Data protection officer: rpd@magnific.com.
Can Magnific images be used commercially? Stock license
- Commercial use of AI output on paid plans (no “main element” restriction)
- Commercial use of stock content on Premium and above, without attribution
- Using AI output and stock in commercial work on the free plan (personal use with attribution only)
- Making stock content the main element of a product for sale; the Merchandise license is only on Pro and excludes AI generations
Copyright ownership varies by country; Magnific does not guarantee copyright ownership of AI output in all jurisdictions. Stock content comes with indemnification (Free €100, Premium €10,000, Premium+ and Pro €50,000 per claim); AI content is outside the standard protection. This is not legal advice.
How do you cancel a Magnific subscription, and are there refunds?
- Cancel renewal from Profile › My subscription. The plan and credits last until the end of the period; after it ends, unused credits can no longer be spent.
- Downgrades take effect at the end of the period, upgrades immediately. Switching between monthly and yearly is also done in My subscription.
The official sources contradict each other: the pricing page says “30-day money-back guarantee”, while the Terms of Use grant no right of withdrawal for digital content (consumer law rights reserved). Refund requests: support@magnific.com. Extra credits are not refundable. Reported by users Complaints about refunds, cancellation and slow support come up repeatedly in four threads.
