What Is Retell AI? AI Phone Agent Pricing, Your Own Number via SIP, Turkish, n8n and KVKK

In Retell AI you build a voice agent that answers phone calls with AI: it transcribes what the caller says, generates a reply with a language model, speaks it aloud; when needed it transfers the call to a staff member and, at the end of the call, sends a summary via webhook to an automation such as n8n. There is no monthly fee; you pay per minute: the official range is $0.07–$0.31/min, and new accounts get a one-time $10 trial credit. Turkish numbers can't be bought from Retell; a line from a carrier such as NetGSM or Verimor is connected via SIP trunk, and Retell charges no telephony fee for it. Turkish transcription and Turkish voices are supported; the interface is in English and prices are in dollars.

What does Retell AI do?

When the business phone rings, an AI agent picks up: it answers frequently asked questions, asks for a suitable appointment time and, if needed, transfers the call to a staff member. When the call ends, a summary and the fields you define (name, request, appointment time and so on) are extracted automatically and sent to your system.

Who it's for: businesses that get lots of questions and appointment requests by phone (clinics, repair services, real estate, schools) and the agencies that set them up. The agent can be built in the dashboard without code; connecting the phone line and setting up the automation take technical knowledge.

Where it fits in DijiKoçum packages: the “inbound call voice agent” add-on module of the Business Communication Package (answers the business's landline or 0850 line — Turkey's nationwide business number — handles FAQs and appointments, transfers to a human, sends the end-of-call report to n8n) and an optional module in the Appointment package.

How does Retell AI work? Caller, line, platform, n8n

Customer callsThe business's landline or 0850 number.
Carrier lineA NetGSM/Verimor SIP trunk routes the call to Retell.
Retell agentTranscribes, replies with a language model, speaks.
n8n → calendar/CRMRequests during the call, a report at the end (webhook).
Diagram: Retell runs in the US; the carrier and n8n are on your side.

Three parts work together: transcription (turns speech into text, STT), the language model (decides what to say) and speech synthesis (turns text into voice, TTS). Retell combines them in a single agent; you choose which language model and which voice to use.

ToolWhat it doesNote
Transfer CallTransfers the call to a numberCold, warm and agentic warm transfer; the agent fee stops after the transfer
Custom functionSends a request to your own URL during the call (e.g. an n8n webhook) and passes the response to the agentThe URL must be public; localhost and private network addresses are blocked
Agent TransferHands the call off to another AI agentSwitching to a specialized agent or one in another language
WebhookSends call_started, call_ended and call_analyzed events to your serverRetries 3 times if no 2xx response arrives within 10 seconds
Post Call ExtractionExtracts a summary, success, sentiment and the fields you define at the end of the callThe result arrives with the call_analyzed event

An agent is built in one of two ways: with a single system prompt (single/multi prompt) or with a flow made of nodes (conversation flow). Retell's own documentation recommends these two for most agents; connecting your own language model server (custom LLM) is also possible, but testing and maintenance are on you.

How do you get started with Retell AI?

  1. Create an account Sign up for free at retellai.com. New accounts get a one-time $10 trial credit; it isn't given twice for the same email.
  2. Create an agent Start from a template or from scratch; choose Turkish (tr-TR) as the language, pick a Turkish voice and a language model; decide who speaks first.
  3. Add tools Set the human handoff number with Transfer Call and the n8n webhook URL with Custom function.
  4. Test in the browser Try the conversation with web calls and simulation tests; voice tests are billed at the normal per-minute rate.
  5. Connect the number Import your carrier line with Phone Numbers › + › Connect to your number via SIP trunking (see the section below).
  6. Set up the report Enter the webhook URL and the Post Call Extraction fields; choose the Data Storage and Retention setting.
  7. Payment and verification After the trial, add a card via Stripe. Outbound calls, buying numbers and SMS require KYC identity verification (83 countries supported).

Payment and credit are tied to the workspace: in a second workspace you need to add the card again. Whether Turkey is on the KYC list is not stated in the documentation; check in the dashboard, and if it isn't listed, contact Retell support.

How do you connect a Turkish number to Retell AI? (SIP trunk)

Retell sells only US and Canadian numbers. For your landline or 0850 number in Turkey, you get a SIP trunk from your carrier (such as NetGSM or Verimor): a virtual line that connects your phone line to another system over the internet. When you connect your own line, Retell charges no per-minute telephony fee and no number fee; your carrier's fees are separate.

  1. Inbound calls (origination) In your carrier's panel, point the number's SIP routing to Retell's address: sip:sip.retellai.com (TCP recommended; UDP and TLS also available).
  2. Outbound calls (termination) When importing the number into Retell, enter the termination URI from your carrier and, if any, the SIP username and password.
  3. IP allowlist If your carrier applies IP restrictions, add Retell's IP blocks from the documentation to the allowlist; for audio, UDP 10000–65535.
  4. Test the connection The Test SIP Connection button sends an OPTIONS request; success doesn't prove calls work, so try a real inbound and outbound call.

Supported audio codecs are PCMU, PCMA and G.722. When transferring a call to a human, cold transfer uses SIP REFER; for that, REFER and transfers to external lines must be enabled at the carrier. Warm transfer is done with SIP DIAL.

How to get a SIP trunk and an 0850 number at NetGSM

If your carrier doesn't support elastic SIP trunking, the second route is “Dial to SIP URI”: you route the call to Retell with your own system. On this route Retell's transfer feature doesn't work; you need to set up transfers yourself.

Building a Good Voice Agent: DijiKoçum's Recommendations

This section is not an official source; it is the method followed in DijiKoçum setups. Retell's own prompting guide also recommends writing short, clear, non-repetitive prompts and not patching mistakes with “don't” rules.

  • Keep the system prompt short: who it is, what it does, what it doesn't do, when it transfers. A long prompt (over 4,000 tokens) also raises the per-minute cost.
  • Keep the opening announcement fixed: “This call is being recorded; I'm X's AI assistant.”
  • Always keep human handoff on: a caller who says “I want to talk to a staff member” or has a complaint is transferred without being kept waiting.
  • Don't bake information like appointments and prices into the prompt; read it live from the calendar and price list via an n8n webhook.
  • Don't collect information such as health details or card numbers over the phone; if needed, turn on the personal data removal (PII) setting.
Sample system prompt (clinic, inbound calls)"You are the phone assistant for [Business Name]. Speak in Turkish, briefly and politely; keep every reply to two sentences at most. Your first sentence: “Hello, welcome to [Business Name]. This call is being recorded, and I'm an AI assistant. How can I help you?” What you can do: answer questions about opening hours and the address; for an appointment, first get the full name and phone number, then call the get_available_slots tool, offer the caller at most three options, and once they confirm, call the create_appointment tool and repeat the date. Don't make up anything you don't know; say “let me transfer you to a member of our staff.” If the caller wants to talk to a staff member, has a complaint or mentions an emergency, call the transfer tool immediately. Don't give prices, diagnoses or treatment advice. At the end of the call, summarize the booked appointment or request in one sentence and say goodbye."

Is Retell AI free? Per-minute pricing and cost items

No subscription, no platform fee: you pay only for the minutes spoken. The official range for a voice agent is $0.07–$0.31 per minute. The per-minute cost is the sum of the components you choose. Prices are in dollars; whether VAT applies is not stated on the pricing page.

ItemPrice (October 22, 2026)Note
Retell voice infrastructure (transcription included)$0.055/minOn every call
Speech synthesis (TTS)$0.015/minRetell, MiniMax, Fish, Cartesia, OpenAI voices; ElevenLabs voices $0.04–$0.10/min
Language model$0.0016–$0.64/minDepends on the chosen model; with a prompt over 4,000 tokens the cost rises proportionally
Telephony$0 (your own SIP line)On a Retell number, US $0.015/min; your carrier fee is separate
Concurrent callsFirst 20 freeEach additional one $8/month
Knowledge base+$0.005/minFirst 10 knowledge bases free, then $8/month
Retell number$2/month$0 for your own number
Add-on features+$0.005–$0.01/minNoise reduction, safety filter, personal data removal

The example from the calculator on the pricing page: language model 0.04 + voice infrastructure 0.055 + speech synthesis 0.015 + telephony 0 = $0.11 per minute. Duration is billed by the second; silence and hold time are also charged, and calls that don't connect are not billed. If the agent speaks first, calls under 10 seconds count as 10 seconds.

Payment and refunds

New accounts use prepaid credit; credit doesn't expire but is non-refundable once purchased. Monthly items such as numbers, extra concurrent calls and knowledge bases are charged to the card at the end of the month. Using up your credit before closing the account is recommended.

Bring your own key (BYOK): an option to enter your own key for the language model, voice or transcription provider in Retell and pay that item to the provider directly is not listed on the official pricing page. Connecting your own language model server (custom LLM) is available; in that case, how the language model item is billed is not clear in the official documentation.

Does Retell AI speak Turkish?

Transcription (STT)YesTurkish (tr-TR): Deepgram, Azure, Soniox and AssemblyAI are listed.
Speech synthesis (TTS)YesTurkish: in Retell, MiniMax, Cartesia, Fish Audio, ElevenLabs and OpenAI voices; not in Inworld.
Reply languageYesTurkish can be selected as the agent's single language; a multilingual agent can also be built.
Interface and docsNoThe dashboard and documentation are in English.

The documentation says a language must be supported by both the speech synthesis and the transcription provider, and that valid combinations are shown in the dashboard's language picker. In ElevenLabs, Turkish isn't available on every model: don't pick an English-only model. Choose based on Turkish speech quality by listening to the voice samples yourself.

Where does Retell AI store recordings? KVKK, call recording and İYS

Where

The privacy policy says data is stored and processed mainly in the US; the security page says no service is operated within the EU. The infrastructure is AWS.

What is stored

By default, recordings, transcripts, logs, caller numbers and variables are kept indefinitely. In the agent settings you can choose “Everything except PII” or “Basic Attributes Only”; retention can be set between 1 and 730 days.

Model training

Terms: unless you have turned off recording, Retell may use de-identified and aggregated data to improve its own models. No training under an Enterprise agreement.

Documents

SOC 2 Type 1 and 2, HIPAA, GDPR statement. The DPA (with EU standard contractual clauses) is free and you can sign it yourself.

KVKK note (not legal advice)

In Turkey, the caller's voice and number are personal data under KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law), and they go to the US. Under Article 9 of Law No. 6698, if there is no adequacy decision, a transfer abroad is made with one of the appropriate safeguards; one of these is the standard contract published by the Board (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Board), which must be notified to the Board within 5 business days of signing. Under Article 10, the caller is informed when the data is collected.

In practice: say in the opening announcement that the call is being recorded and that the caller is speaking with an AI assistant, link to the privacy notice (by SMS or on your website), and keep the retention period short. Retell has no separate KVKK statement; determine the legal basis for the transfer with your lawyer.

If you'll make outbound (campaign) calls: in Turkey, Law No. 6563 treats commercial messages sent by phone, call center or automated dialing machine as “commercial electronic messages” and requires prior consent; İYS (Turkey's commercial message consent registry) keeps consent for the call channel separately. Messages can be sent to tradespeople and merchants without consent. Retell's terms also leave it to the customer to obtain the consent required for calls and document it for at least 5 years. Answering inbound calls is not covered by this.

Retell AI or Vapi?

Differences according to the documentation: Retell quotes the per-minute price as a bundle, while Vapi passes on each item separately at the provider's price and accepts your own API keys. Retell keeps data in the US; Vapi defaults to the US, with an EU region on the top package. Both offer Turkish voices and transcription, SIP trunking, webhooks and n8n integration.

Frequently asked questions

What is Retell AI?

A platform where you build voice agents that answer and place phone calls with AI. It transcribes speech, replies with a language model and speaks; it can transfer the call to a human and sends a report via webhook at the end of the call.

Is Retell AI free?

No, but there's no subscription either. New accounts get a one-time $10 trial credit; after that you pay per minute. The official range is $0.07–$0.31 per minute.

How is Retell AI's per-minute price calculated?

Voice infrastructure $0.055, speech synthesis $0.015 for most voices, the language model depending on your choice, and the telephony fee are added up. The example total on the pricing page is $0.11 per minute. On your own SIP line, Retell charges no telephony fee.

Does Retell AI work with a Turkish phone number?

Retell doesn't sell Turkish numbers. You connect a number from a carrier such as NetGSM or Verimor via SIP trunk; inbound calls are routed to sip:sip.retellai.com, and for outbound calls you enter the carrier's termination address and SIP credentials.

Does Retell AI speak Turkish?

Yes. Turkish transcription and Turkish voices are supported by several providers. The dashboard and documentation are in English.

How do I connect Retell AI to n8n?

During the call, a Custom function sends a request to the n8n webhook URL and the response is passed to the agent. At the end of the call, the call_analyzed webhook event can send the summary and extracted fields to n8n.

Can Retell AI transfer a call to a human?

Yes. The Transfer Call tool offers cold, warm and agentic warm transfer. After the transfer the agent fee stops and the telephony fee continues. On a SIP line, SIP REFER must be enabled at the carrier for cold transfer.

Where does Retell AI store recordings, and is it KVKK compliant?

Data is processed mainly in the US and kept indefinitely by default; you can turn off storage or choose a period of 1–730 days. Retell has no statement on KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law); transfers abroad and the privacy notice require a legal assessment. This note is not legal advice.

Can I make bulk calls with Retell AI?

Technically, batch calls are available, but in Turkey commercial messages by phone require prior consent and registration in İYS (Turkey's commercial message consent registry); Retell's terms also require the customer to obtain and document the necessary consent. KYC verification is mandatory for outbound calls.

Is Retell AI credit refundable?

No. According to the documentation, purchased credit can be used indefinitely but is not refunded; using up the balance before closing the account is recommended.
