What Is Vapi? AI Phone Agent: Pricing, Turkish Numbers (BYO SIP), Turkish Language, n8n and KVKK
In Vapi you build an AI assistant that talks on the phone or on the web: you pick the transcription, language model and voice providers yourself, and Vapi orchestrates them in real time. It is a developer platform. The cost has two parts: Vapi's hosting fee of $0.05 per minute and the providers' own prices (Vapi adds no markup); if you enter your own API key, you pay that line item directly to the provider. You start with $5 in credit, and 4 concurrent calls are included. For a Turkish number, your carrier's line (NetGSM, Verimor) is connected via a BYO SIP trunk, and Vapi's SIP transport is free. Turkish transcription and voices are available; the interface is in English and prices are in US dollars.

What Does Vapi Do?
With Vapi you build an AI assistant that picks up the phone and talks: it answers questions, checks the calendar and books appointments through n8n, and transfers the call to a staff member when needed. When the call ends, a summary and the fields you defined (name, request, appointment time) arrive at your server in an end-of-call report.
Who it's for: Vapi positions itself for developers. The assistant can be set up from the dashboard, but connecting your own SIP line is done through the API, and setting up tools and reports requires technical knowledge. An agency or developer does the setup; the business uses the result.
Where it fits in DijiKoçum packages: the “inbound call voice agent” add-on module of the Business Communication Package (answers the business's landline or 0850 line, FAQ and appointments, transfer to a human, end-of-call report to n8n) and an optional module in the Appointment package.
How Does Vapi Work? Caller, Line, Platform, n8n
An assistant has three swappable parts: transcription (turns speech into text, STT), the language model and voice (TTS). Vapi adds its own real-time layer in between: detecting when someone has finished speaking, telling interruptions apart, filtering background noise. This layer can't be configured and doesn't store audio.
| Tool / feature | What it does | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer Call | Transfers the call to a number or SIP address | Default is a direct (blind) transfer; on your own SIP line an experimental warm transfer also works, while warm transfers with a message are Twilio-only |
| API Request | Sends a request to a web address (e.g. an n8n Webhook) during the call and passes the JSON response to the assistant | Vapi's n8n guide recommends this route |
| Function tool | Sends the tool call to your Server URL as a webhook | For asynchronous and client-side work |
| Squads | Hands the call off between specialist assistants | E.g. one does screening, the other booking |
| Server URL | Sends status, transcript, tool-call and end-of-call-report events to your server | The end-of-call report goes to n8n from here |
| Structured outputs | Extracts structured data from the call according to a schema | Call analysis also produces a summary and a success score |
How Do You Get Started With Vapi?
- Create an account Sign up at dashboard.vapi.ai; $5 in starting credit is added. The terms require you to be 18 or the age of majority.
- Create an assistant Choose the transcription, language model and voice providers; for Turkish, pick a model and voice that support it (see the Turkish section).
- Add tools Set the transfer number with Transfer Call and the n8n Webhook address with API Request.
- Test it Try it from the dashboard with a web call or a simulation. The free Vapi number is US-only and for inbound calls only.
- Connect the Turkish number Create the BYO SIP trunk credential and the number through the API (section below).
- Set up the report Set the Server URL to the n8n Webhook address; define the Structured outputs schema.
- Add credit Add a card under Billing, buy credit and turn on auto-reload if you like.
!Vapi's limits are per subscription, not per account: Usage only allows 2 organizations and 4 concurrent calls. An organization is a separate workspace; assistants, numbers and keys belong to the organization.
How Do You Connect a Turkish Number to Vapi? (BYO SIP Trunk)
The free numbers Vapi provides are US numbers and take inbound calls only. For your landline or 0850 number in Turkey, you get a SIP trunk from your carrier (such as NetGSM or Verimor): a virtual line that connects your phone line to another system over the internet. Vapi calls this a “Custom BYO SIP Trunk” and charges nothing for SIP transport; carrier fees are separate.
- Get the details from your carrier The SIP server address, username and password (or IP authentication), and at least one number.
- Create a SIP trunk credential Send a request to the Vapi API with provider: byo-sip-trunk: put the carrier's SIP address in gateways and the username and password in outboundAuthenticationPlan; save the returned Credential ID.
- Connect the number Send the number and the Credential ID with provider: byo-phone-number; assign the assistant to the number.
- Route inbound calls In the carrier's panel, route calls to {number}@{credential_id}.sip.vapi.ai. Add Vapi's signaling IPs (44.229.228.186, 44.238.177.138) to the allowlist; for audio, UDP 40000–60000.
- Test it Start an outbound call through the API, and call the number from outside to test inbound calls.
› curl -X POST "https://api.vapi.ai/credential" -H "Authorization: Bearer VAPI_PRIVATE_KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"provider":"byo-sip-trunk","name":"Operator Trunk","gateways":[{"ip":"CARRIER_SIP_ADDRESS","inboundEnabled":false}],"outboundLeadingPlusEnabled":true,"outboundAuthenticationPlan":{"authUsername":"SIP_USERNAME","authPassword":"SIP_PASSWORD"}}'Vapi doesn't recommend IP-based authentication because its servers are shared with many customers: calls can be misrouted. If your carrier offers username and password authentication, use that. To transfer a call to a human with SIP REFER, REFER may need to be enabled at the carrier.
Building a Good Voice Agent: DijiKoçum's Recommendations
This section is not an official source; it's the method followed in DijiKoçum setups.
- Keep the system prompt short: who it is, what it does, what it doesn't do, when to transfer.
- Keep the opening announcement fixed: “This call is being recorded; I'm X's AI assistant.”
- Always keep transfer to a human available; test direct transfer on your own SIP line first.
- Don't bake information like appointments and prices into the prompt; read it live from n8n with API Request.
- Don't collect sensitive information over the phone; if you must, use a separate assistant that turns off recording and logs for that step.
Is Vapi Free? Per-Minute Price and Cost Items
In Vapi the per-minute cost is made up of four items plus Vapi's hosting fee. The official FAQ: transcription, language model, voice and transport are passed through at the provider's list price with no markup; on top comes Vapi's fee of $0.05 per minute. You use prepaid credit.
| Item | Price (October 22, 2026) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Vapi hosting | $0.05/min | Every minute |
| Transcription (example: Deepgram) | $0.0095–$0.0099/min | Provider price |
| Language model (example: OpenAI) | $0.0077–$0.0452/min | Depends on the model chosen |
| Voice (example: ElevenLabs) | $0.0146–$0.0238/min | Provider price |
| Transport: Vapi phone / SIP | Free | Twilio inbound $0.008, outbound $0.014/min; Telnyx $0.0055/min (billed by the provider) |
| Extra concurrent call | $10/line/month | 4 lines included on Usage only |
| Extra organization | $20/month | 2 included |
| HIPAA add-on | $2,000/month | With a standard DPA and BAA |
The calculator on the pricing page shows roughly $82–$129/month for 1,000 minutes (about $0.08–$0.13 per minute). No package is mandatory; the Core package is $29 a month (10 concurrent calls, 30-day data retention, a zero data retention option, email support), and Pro is 10% of the hosting fee, at least $999/month.
In the Integrations tab you enter the API key of your transcription, language model or voice provider. According to the docs, once the key is verified Vapi doesn't charge for that provider, and the provider bills you directly. Vapi's $0.05/min hosting fee still applies.
Refunds: Under the terms, per-minute and usage-based fees are considered “earned as incurred” and are not refunded except where required by law. For non-usage packages, refunds are at Vapi's discretion, prorated by remaining days. Prices are in US dollars; the pricing page doesn't say whether VAT applies.

Where Does Vapi Store Recordings? KVKK, Call Recording and İYS
Organizations are in the US region by default. The EU region (dashboard.eu.vapi.ai) is only on the Premier package. Recordings are stored in Vapi's Cloudflare R2 storage by default; you can provide your own S3, GCP, R2 or Azure storage.
Raw call data (recording, transcript, logs) is kept 14 days on Usage only, 30 on Core and 180 on Pro. Zero data retention (ZDR) is included once any package is added. Recording, logs and transcripts can be turned off in the assistant settings (artifactPlan).
The terms (September 14, 2026) state that your content is not given to third parties for their own training, and that improvements specific to you are made only with your explicit consent. The older privacy policy (September 9, 2023), however, says recordings and transcripts may be kept for model training. For providers you connect with your own key, that provider's rules apply.
SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and GDPR statements; standard contractual clauses for transfers outside the EU. The HIPAA add-on comes with a standard DPA and BAA. Compliance reports are in the Trust Portal (security.vapi.ai); how a DPA is signed on other packages is not clear in official sources, so ask the sales team.
In Turkey, the caller's voice and number are personal data under KVKK (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law), and by default they go to the US. Under Article 9 of Law No. 6698, if there is no adequacy decision, a transfer abroad is made with one of the appropriate safeguards; one of these is the standard contract published by the Board (Turkey's Personal Data Protection Board), which must be notified to the Board within 5 business days of signing. Under Article 10, the caller is informed when the data is collected.
In practice: state in the opening announcement that the call is recorded and that it's an AI assistant, turn off recording if you don't need it, keep retention short or write to your own storage. Vapi has no KVKK-specific statement; determine the legal basis for the transfer with your lawyer.
!If you'll make outbound (campaign) calls: in Turkey, Law No. 6563 treats commercial messages sent by phone, call center or automated dialing machine as “commercial electronic messages” and requires prior consent; İYS (Turkey's commercial message consent registry) keeps consent for the call channel separately. Messages can be sent to tradespeople and merchants without consent. Vapi's outbound calling doc also reminds you that automated calls without consent are illegal in the US, and the terms prohibit unlawful use. Answering inbound calls is not covered by this.
Vapi or Retell AI?
Differences according to the docs: Vapi passes each item through separately at the provider's price and accepts your own API key; Retell gives a bundled per-minute price. In Vapi your own SIP line is connected through the API, in Retell from the dashboard. Raw data retention is 14–180 days in Vapi depending on the package, and indefinite by default in Retell (configurable). Both offer Turkish voices and transcription, webhooks and an n8n connection.
